1 Week, 4 Days, 14 hours, 54 minutes and 12 seconds (11 days). I have saved $28.32 by not smoking 174 cigarettes. I have saved 14 hours and 30 minutes of my life.

WooHoo.. Guys it may not feel like it now, but it gets better!! This weekend was a good one for me, I thought about smoking 2x in the past 24 hours for a total of about 10 minutes!! Everyone hanging in there?? We can doo it!!!!

I'm OK, I guess! The weekend was extremely hard for me, so I do hope it gets better soon. I did not smoke but only because there were none around! I just feel so depressed and my stomach feels like it is doing flip flops...If the physical part is over in 72 hours, why do I still feel so darned crappy! I thought this was supposed to make me feel sooooo much better but so far I am a nervous wreck. It will be one week this afternoon at 3:00pm and I still think about them all the time especially in the evening. Not sure I'm gonna make it...but for now...I will NOT smoke today. I hate to sound so whiney because I am usually a pretty upbeat and happy go lucky person...but this really sucks! Sorry but I feel miserable.evilicon

Debbie,

I always heard that it took a couple of weeks for nicotine to completely leave your system! I guess it's different for different people, but if it's been a week since you smoked, you will probably begin to feel better soon! Each day will get a little easier.

I just quit caffeine in Nov., and I didn't drink that much of it, but it was a week or more before my headache went away. It got less and less, and finally went away. I quit smoking 20+ years ago, so my memory isn't as fresh about that, but it took me a month of cutting down on the number of cigarettes before I could quit cold turkey (this was before the patch and wellbutrin).

Good luck. My thoughts and prayers are still with you, Jean and Jenn!

YAY one day at a time

Deb,

I felt really bad too around 7 days, but I truly believe that it is all mental, Your brain is telling you you want a smoke, it is throwing a temper tantrum if you will.. I think the brain needs to learn to function without nicotine screwing with your dopamine levels. Just keep resisting. The craves must be comming less and less though, even a little?? I know you see improvement because you said you have quit coughing already!! Had anything tasted better than usual? Do you notice that you can breathe deeper yet?? Maybe feel a little better when you wake up without that nicotine hangover we have al had?!?!?! Little things that are taking place.. Your body is healing from a adiction, 20 years for me, 20 years of lighting up.. That is a long time to do something and just stop. Just keep your head high!! and SMILE you are doing one of the hardest/best things for yourself, I know you have the resolve to follow through!!

I logged on here today to admit my failure

:(

I failed, yesterday at 2PM :( but the good news is (I guess) I have been good since.

It was a horrid weekend, and to be honest, I do not know what else to do during stress but have a smoke to get myself back into perspective.
As I stated a resident at work passed away during my Sat. PM shift, and I got through it fine. But on my Sunday shift (yesterday) we lost 2 more. One has to realize our Principles of Care to understand the depth to which we feel these losses. Our client list becomes in someways personal to us, as we spend so much time with them, I know these people inside out. I know their life as children, adults, I know all their trimphs and failures in life. Elderly people share with you. We also have the priviledge of getting to know their families quite well. So, when the end of their time here on earth is drawing near, the person who has managed their care becomes very involved in their comfort, family support and dealing with issues after the fact on behalf of the family if so desired. 2 of these 3 were my clients. I go through the whole ordeal with extreme professionalism, keeping my emotions in check in order to give some calm to the client and families. But as I said, after all is said and done, I quietly on my own crash and burn. At 2PM yesterday, I crashed, and begged a smoke from a co-worker. went outside by myself cried and smoked, as well as beating myself up for taking the darn cigarrette. I should have gone for a walk and I know that now. I think too the lack of nicotine made it all hit harder than it would have. I dunno. But, I have not had one since and am busying myself today getting the guest room fixed up befitting for my 7 year old neices first visit with us since we moved here (18 months ago) We are excited about the 5 days she will be with us, so that in itself should keep me otherwise occupied.
So, it is okay for you all to now give me my lashing for my failure smashicon
I will keep you updated

The only one who can give you a lashing is you....

First <<HUGS>> to you....

Restart that quit meter, pick yerself up and dust yourself off. One second at a time if that is what it takes. I worked in a Surgical ward while I was in the Army, I understand how hard death hits people in the health care industry. You just have to know you are going to face that trigger and find another coping skill. You can do this Jean, you can, I know it.. Quit like your life depends on it;)

No tongue lashing here...that's for darned sure. This is hardest thing I have ever tried to do and I may be the next but like Jenn said...just one step at a time. I will not smoke today! I will not smoke today! We may all have setbacks and minor failures, but that is exactly why we are doing this together, so just start again and just think of how very proud Jillian will be when you tell her that her favorite aunt is a non-smoker!! ;)

aawww no ones gonna do any tounge lashing at you... you already made a huge step and that is deciding that you want to be a non smoker.. and you also admited that you did a wrong with lighting up again.. I know I'm just a silly teen and wouldnt know much about addiction.. but I really do care about the health of all these wonderful people on this msg board <and there wonderful dogs> and I really do hope and pray that you all can get over this hill and become completly smoke free... maybe a lil story mite cheer you up?... when I was younger and trying to get my mum to quit.. i found a pack of cigs that were hidden.. i got so angry <mum wasnt around  > I opened the box and ripped each and every one of thoes smokes to bits and threw them in the garbage.... mum eventually hadta throw something out and noticed the cigs there and she asked me why I did it.. i told her that I didnt want her smoking and that she made a promis and that I didnt want her to get cancer and die... she silently smiled at me and hugged me and with a bit of frustration in her voice told me that thoes smokes were not hers.. her friend gave them to my mum so she could deliver them to one of her relatives in Poland <this was a week be4 our trip to poland> lol.. :p .. just keep at it guys... you could do it I know you can!

How are my quit buddies doing today???

I am almost scared to ask..

Deb you hanging in there? Jean, did you restart that quit meter?

My days are getting easier and easier, so believe me, you can do this, and it does get easier even though it doesn't seem like it right now...

I guess I am OK. But I am feeling worse and worse everyday. But it is an emotional thing with me. I can't quit shaking and all I want to do is sit and cry. My stomach feels like it is in knots and doing flip flops and I get this gnawing "hungry" feeling but then when I try to eat, I feel sick and can hardly swallow the food. I have not smoked but this has to stop or I'm gonna smoke one that's about three feet long! I feel like such a wimp and I am not usually a wimp at all. I have even put a call in to my doctor to see if this is normal for someone who is quitting or if I am finally just losing it! Sorry you guys but it is not getting any easier yet, but I promise I will not smoke today! :(
