I logged on here today to admit my failure
:(
I failed, yesterday at 2PM :( but the good news is (I guess) I have been good since.
It was a horrid weekend, and to be honest, I do not know what else to do during stress but have a smoke to get myself back into perspective.
As I stated a resident at work passed away during my Sat. PM shift, and I got through it fine. But on my Sunday shift (yesterday) we lost 2 more. One has to realize our Principles of Care to understand the depth to which we feel these losses. Our client list becomes in someways personal to us, as we spend so much time with them, I know these people inside out. I know their life as children, adults, I know all their trimphs and failures in life. Elderly people share with you. We also have the priviledge of getting to know their families quite well. So, when the end of their time here on earth is drawing near, the person who has managed their care becomes very involved in their comfort, family support and dealing with issues after the fact on behalf of the family if so desired. 2 of these 3 were my clients. I go through the whole ordeal with extreme professionalism, keeping my emotions in check in order to give some calm to the client and families. But as I said, after all is said and done, I quietly on my own crash and burn. At 2PM yesterday, I crashed, and begged a smoke from a co-worker. went outside by myself cried and smoked, as well as beating myself up for taking the darn cigarrette. I should have gone for a walk and I know that now. I think too the lack of nicotine made it all hit harder than it would have. I dunno. But, I have not had one since and am busying myself today getting the guest room fixed up befitting for my 7 year old neices first visit with us since we moved here (18 months ago) We are excited about the 5 days she will be with us, so that in itself should keep me otherwise occupied.
So, it is okay for you all to now give me my lashing for my failure
I will keep you updated
Jean
