Congratulations to all of you who are kicking this addiction. For those still in the pondering stage (or early stages of a quit), I highly recommend this website: www.whyquit.com. It was by far the best site I found for quitting. For women with young children trying to quit, I suggest reading Noni Glyckos (sp?) story on that site ~ it totally shook me up, and every time I wanted a cigarette I thought of her and what she left behind.

In the past I always tried to quit using patches, inhaler, gum, and Zyban. It was torture and now I know why (see the website). For me personally, cold turkey is the only way to go. 72 hours of possible hell, but then the physical withdrawals are over ~ yes, you still have to deal with the psychological withdrawals, but they're manageable. The nicotine replacement therapies I was using were just prolonging the agony (for me anyway). Like a lot of you, Zyban made me very depressed and I got weepy over nothing at all.

NOTE: If the nicotine replacement therapies work for you, that's great! Keep 'em going! After all, if the end result is a total quit then it's the right thing for you!;)

GOOD LUCK TO ALL!

I am very proud of you Vasha!!! Keep up the good work, I know you can do it!! Remember, if you're desperate enough, carrots taste just like chocolate..... :D You're my hope that quitting is possible, and I really need to get rid of this habit as well!

YOU CAN DO IT!!!

I quit 2 years ago after smoking almost 30 years. And I mean I smoked like a freight train!! smokicon

I tried and failed and tried and failed to quit....numerous times over the years. Finally I kicked the habit 2 years ago. :)

I did it with the help of NicoDerm CQ.
The first 3 days were the hardest....but then it got easier and easier and the NicoDerm really did help....tremendously!!

I kept some sour lollipops around and stuck one in my mouth whenever I got a little urge for something.

Like I said....the first 3 days were the worse of it....but it wasn't that bad with the help of the patches.

Now there is one draw back....well at least it was one for me.
I have gained almost 40 lbs. since I quit smoking.

Now here is a plus....I saved the money that I had been spending on Cigarettes, and in less than a year I had enough that I paid cash for a super nice computer system with all the extras appicon appicon appicon and I still had money left. I saved for a few more months and last May I paid a good down payment on a brand new VW Beetle. caricon
New computer and nice down payment on New car....all in less than 2 years....and all from the money I would have spent on cigarettes. :D

YOU CAN DO IT!!!

Keep us posted on your progress!! :)

the weight gain is what scares me the most (isnt that awfully shallow?!) so i've been incorporating healthier eating and gym time into my day, but still - those chocolate cravings are KILLING me!

I don't think that is shallow- -because of the health risks with that as well as smoking. Everything kills ya these days!! Well I went to the cardio today and had an Echo and my heart is doing better!! YaY!!!!! I have worried about it for weeks and thought it wasn't- -its the smoking here too! I have a bad condition and I SMOKE ! ! !

Good luck Vasha- -do the peppermint thing or the suckers or jolly ranchers. The guy that put in my parents pool some years back chewed on toothpicks- -it worked.
