Just an update on Roxie.
She was 19 weeks old this past Saturday and weighed 34 pounds at the vet. She's getting big FAST!
For the most part she's doing good. We have even taught her some tricks. She can sit, shake with both paws separately, and lay Down. I started teaching her to roll over but it hasn't stuck yet.
The fact that she is learning all that without problems is confusing us, because she still goes potty in the house, and she is very bad outside.I'll start by saying this is not our first radio training dogs. I grew up with dogs and so did my wife. And we both trained a couple. We're stumped with Roxie. We tried to teach her to hit the blinds when she wants out. But the problem is, she always wants out. Even when she doesn't have to potty shit hits the blinds/door because she wants to go out. So this causes us to never know when she actually has to potty. And it seems to never make sense either. It's never in timely intervals, like every hour or two. It's just random.
Than when she's outside it usually gets worse. She started digging and she won't stop. I know a little about training dogs, so I know enough to know that you can't scold them unless you catch them in the act or they will forget what they did wrong. This is exactly the problem. She won't dig if either of us are outside. So I sit inside and watch, when she starts digging, I grab my rolled up newspaper and run outside to tell her no, and by that time, she's already taken off across the yard. This is when she starts her gameof keep away. And we go through this literally EVERY time we try and get her in the house. She thinks it's a game and runs from us, barking and growling and running around us in circles. Sometimes taking us 20 minutes to get her in the house. And I'm no slouch, I'm only 24 and 145 pounds and pretty athletic. Roxie is VERY fast now. when we finally manage to get her in the house, she's an angel again. She's so good in the house except for pottying.
I have never had to train a dog that had this behavior before. And I don't really know what to do. We can't catch her to scold her and tell her no. By the time we do catch her, we can't really yell at her because she has already forgot what she did because she's playing keep away games. We love her to death, but neither of us have had a dog that misbehaved this much, and this isn't out first run with boxers either. We considering putting her in obedience classes to help us out. What do you all think?
