Our new puppy Roxie

Ok well a little update on Roxie again, I'll post pictures when I get to my computer. She is getting real close to 50 pounds already. She was about 48 pounds at her Monday vet visit.

She is already starting to naturally get protective of the house. A couple of times she has gotten startled by somebody or something she sees out of the front door and she starts off making these little "woofs" that after a minute or so turn into a full on bark/howl. One time I had her in the backyard at night, and I went in the front yard to take the trash out and she didn't know I was out there. When she heard me making noise she started barking softly ("woofs" again) and then after a couple, she ran to the gate barking until she saw me.

We are really happy that she is starting to do this because just last week somebody tried to break into our house. Really scary because I work midnights and my wife was alone with only roxie. She didn't hear it or anything. But when I got home from work at 5:30 am. She noticed the back screen door was ripped. I instantly blew it off, saying it must have been roxie because she jumps on the screen when she wants in. But I have a security camera system, so I went and checked the footage. That is when I saw a man standing at my back sliding door at 1:15 am pull out a steak knife from his pocket and start cutting our screen. After he cut it, he reached in and tried opening it but eventually gave up and tried another door. He then gave up on the other door and left. All within 5-6 minutes. Super scary for us, especially with me gone and my wife alone. So Roxie learning this protective behavior now is good news for the future to us. But for now, I added two more cameras to my house, and I also just bought an alarm system.

With all that bad/scary news out of the way, I'm going to post some new pictures of her when I get on my computer. She's gotten big so fast.

How scary someone trying to breaking in! Someone tried to break into my house once and I am sure the dogs are what stopped them. They got as far as tearing just one corner of the screen on a window. I had a alarm system, a sign up for the alarm and warning signs up to beware of dogs. One of which was 10 feet from the window. I hope you called the cops and showed them the video. Maybe they can recognize the man or get fingerprints. They can also drive through your neighborhood more often.

I can't wait to see new pics of Roxie. They do grow very quickly!

Oh how scary! Thank goodness he didn't get in the house and that every is safe.

Glad to hear Roxy is coming along and has settled nicely into her home! Looking forward to seeing some pictures.

Thanks. It was very scary and now my wife is having a real hard time sleeping at night. So Im trying to get switched to day shift here soon. I did file a police report and turn in the footage. He also dropped a glove in my backyard which the police collected. It had just snowed that night and so he left footprints everywhere. I followed his footprints literally around 3-4 blocks, he was going up to random houses. But after he gave up on our house, he tried to get a house down the street and set their alarm system off. But he still hasn't got caught! :(

Here she is watching me shovel snow in the front yard. My wife took this picture. She was just sitting there waiting for me.

OMG what a sweetie! Love her markings. Very scary about someone trying to break in. Daisy is still at the small woof stage but our Lab makes up for that part.

Thanks everyone!
Now we have to start trying to let her learn to be more independent. We want her to be able to roam the house freely. And not be crated when we are gone. We were thinking that we could start leaving for 15-20 minutes with her out. Just to go somewhere quick. And slowly get her used to it. She likes to jump on the counter and get her paws on everything. So it's gonna take some work. What do you all think would be a good way to do this?

We closed all the bedroom and bathroom doors where Daisy only had the living room to cruse around. We of course took everything off the counter because she is also a surfer. We only lost one couch in 8 months so I guess that is not too bad. We also made sure all her toys were in the living room with her so she could have a toy party while we were gone.
