I'm glad the surgery went well - one step down, ?? more to go. With a little more luck, she'll continue to heal and be able to go home soon.

Another Update!!!

Well, we got the results back from Maddie's surgery. To say I am devastated right now would be an understatement. Nothing in my life ever seems like it can be easy or go right. The biopsy results say that the piece of the pancreas we sent was just inflammation........no tumor, nothing malignant. I know you are probably thinking that it is WONDERFUL news however it's not. I just talked the internist about the results and she said she doesn't believe the results. She said she is going to have them recut the biopsy and resubmit it. If they cannot find the tumor in that piece (which it sounds like they will not be finding a tumor in that piece) then that means the tumor must still be in her pancreas!!!!! That would mean the actual tumor was left behind. She said she has to have a tumor somewhere in her that is secreting all the extra insulin in her body. She wouldn't tell what else it could be, she would only say we will cross that bridge later. So now I have to wait several more days for them to redo the biopsy............most likely to be told that, "Sorry, the tumor must still be in your dog." I am sick, heartbroken, devastated, numb, etc. I cannot believe I put my baby through all the pain of surgery and all the stress and anxiety I caused her for what seems to be for NOTHING!!!!! If this is the case, we went through all of this for nothing, it means we didn't even buy her any extra time. One of my worst fears regarding this whole situation is coming true. Which was putting her through the surgery, the pain, stress, anxiety all for nothing. That would mean we didn't even buy her any extra time at all. I feel like someone just reached inside my chest and abdomen and ripped everything out. I know I shouldn't be getting this worked up/upset until I know for 100% certainty that the tumor was indeed left behind, however after speaking with the internist she made it seem like that was most likely the case or even something worse. How can I not get upset and worry about it right now!?!?!? I hope the redo results will be back no later than weds.

Maddie is still here at the hospital, I left for only several hours yesterday afternoon to take my daughter to a doctors appt. and grab a quick shower. I slept here again with her last night. Poor little girl has such bad anxiety issues and gets so worked up being here it's so sad. Her temp finally seemed to stabilize, the morphine is out of her system and she is doing better. Her glucose levels have been good for the most part, a few low ones but not that bad. I will check her glucose again at noon and "if" it is normal I can pull her central line, iv cath, and take her home (please, please, please!!!) My only concern is with her glucose, she has been on fluids that has dextrose added to them, we have decreased the amount gradually over the past two days however she has not been completely off of it yet. I'm afraid if I take her home her glucose might drop a lot since the dextrose will no longer be given to her. I guess I will just monitor it at home and rush back in if need be (which I pray not). So from the sounds of the biopsy results, I will still need to be worrying about the hypoglycemia, we were hoping by doing the surgery and removing the tumor, that the hypoglycemia would reside for now........guess not.

I am so physically and emotionally drained right now and unfortunately this doesn't seem like it will be the last of this whole situation.

Please continue to keep Maddie in your thoughts and prayers. I hope something good will become of what I just put her though and will not all be nothing. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that I can at least take my baby girl home today. I will update again later. Thanks again

Oh Carrie I don't know what to say. Hindsight is always 20-20, and you did what you thought was best for Maddie, so don't beat yourself up over it. I know it's easier said than done and I'd probably be doing the same thing. I hope you will be able to bring your baby girl home today so at least her anxiety and stress levels will be down. ((hugs)) to you both.

I am so sorry you did not get definitive results. I will keep your Maddie in my prayers that she gets home and does well and you get some insight on the next biopsy. I can not imagine how tortured you must feel. You made the best choice you could and no one could have predicted this. God bless you and Maddie
