I voted for the dobie. We had on before the boxers and he was wonderful. Labs are great also , but they're so common.

Vizsla.
I grew up in Hungary so I saw/met a lot of them. I never owned one though. There at tleast they had a very good reputation for being good with kids, and they were still used to guard the house. I've never known one used for hunting but they're supposed to excellent hunting dogs too. Extremely smart too. The only thing I don't like about them is they need a lot of room to run. If you don't have the room, I'd go with the lab instead. They also have what you're looking for but they're much more mellow. They're not as smart as Vizslas though. At least that has been my experience. Good luck!

definetely doberman

There is a doberman that lives across the street from us. She is the sweetest girl. She even lets some of the toddlers in the 'hood ride on her back. If you're not picking a boxer I'd go with doberman.

I voted for the malinois. They are similar to the GSD, but a bit smaller. They are very smart and loyal. The troopers and local police departments here are using them now instead of the GSD due to hip problems. That may help in your need to be wary of strangers. They are beautiful dogs and very friendly. I had the opportunity to meet one that is a drug sniffing dog and he was just fantastic. :) Hope this helped. Also, if you go to Animal Planets website, they also have a dog breed selector. Good luck and let us know what you decide.

There are many websites that allow you to take a test and they tell you what breed best suits you. I think that is the best place to start!

I have to agree with Jess here, nothing better than 2 boxers :) lol

But if your looking for another breed, I vote Mali's all the way.

Mali's short coat make them easy groomers (like Boxies). Mali's are smart, playful and love to work (like Boxies). Temprament make them some what shy around strangers but extremely playful with their owners. They can be somewhat possessive but not aggressive.

A friend's Mali is on the 3rd leg of her SNR training, she's an absolute gem. Mali's love to work they respond so well to command.

I've seen her rough it up with 5 other Boxies and yet curl up to a 4 year old and go to sleep.

IMO a well rounded companion.

My experience with Malinois' was HORRIBLE! I was supposed to 'test drive' one for a month and I sent it back after 1 week because I could not stand that dog. He was super duper anxious and would not relax. He was REALLY mouthy when I worked with him and bit me (and drew blood!) several times. I do agree that they are very smart and eager to please but I just felt like telling that dog to "CHILL OUT!" I've seen 2 others that were this way as well. The are awesome agility and working dogs but I don't think I could stand living with one - too intense for me! Perhaps the Malinois' that I saw were not an accurate representation but it was enough to change my mind. I got a little JRT instead - still mouthy and crazy but not as big so he's a little easier to handle.
I think Dobermans are a better choice - beautiful, noble, gentle - and everyone (who isn't familiar with them) is scared to death of them (visual crime deterrant?)

Good luck!

Sorry I can't be of much help. I honestly could not pick another breed than the boxer. They have all the traits I love (that is why I have two and if I had alot of land I would have more!!) My son adds a lot of money too!!!

I picked the lab beacause of my experience with them raising and training them to be service dogs. Someone mentioned that they thought they not too bright but that has not been my experience at all. They do train differrently then boxers but they are not the hard heads people have made them out to be.

I am curious though as to why you chose the yellow over the black & the chocolate. Blacks seem to be much more plentiful in my area and it seems nobody wants them.

Don't get me wrong but in your other post you said you worked all day. You have great taste in dogs because they all make wonderful pets, If you want a bigger dog I would go with a Poodle I had lots of experence with them and they coudn't be trained faster.
