Boxer Traits

My Bridget loves to swim and she loves to eat the water sprayed from the hose. Infact, I would say the hose is her most favorite toy. It's almost impossible to water my flowerbeds or clean off winter grime. Bridget sticks her whole head right in the line of water fire. It's hilarious.
Last summer Bridget decided to take over my boys little pool. She will actually splash all of the water out of it. This year, we will have two pools. Of course, I know she will try to hog both of them.
Another example of her loving to swim...Labor Day weekend we went camping at a friend's Boy Scout Camp. My husband took the kids for a ride in a little row boat on the lake. Bridget couldn't handle it...she jumped off of the dock and swam about 50 yards to the boat, so that she could hop in with them. It was crazy watching my husband try to fish her out of the water without tipping the boat with my children aboard! Next time, my husband will not forget to take her along in the first place.
She's quite a treat. What's hers is hers and what we thought was ours is actually hers.

I have a picture somewhere of Bama doing the woo-woo song. He's sitting by the baby gate, woo-wooing (whining) because he wants to go downstairs (most likely to counter-surf!). You can tell that he's woo-wooing because his mouth is in the shape of a perfect "O"!

His most famous trait is the "guilt trip face". Anytime DH and I eat something, Bama will sit there and stare at us with the most pitiful look on his face, like he hasn't eaten in days. Those sad eyes kill me!

Other than that, at least once a day he gets on his back and gyrates around with his legs in the air, and rubs his head with his paws. It's so funny to see gravity doing a number on his jowels!

He also will steal our spot on the couch - he'll jump up on the couch with us and sit in the middle (or on our lap) but as soon as one of us gets up, he steals the end of the couch that we were sitting on and makes himself all comfy on the pillow. Even if you just lean forward for a second, he scoots up behind you and grabs your spot!

Oh yeah, and how could I almost forget the toot-toot-tooting as he goes up and down the stairs!

Howdy folkz. New to the boards but enjoying them very much. I just wanted to share something about one of the boxer traits mentioned alot around here. People in my family have had boxers off and on for many years and we had one in HS (1981-91). Tsu was our best dog ever! Everyone keeps talking about kidney-beaning, we always called it donutting. :) I realized what it was as soon as I saw people talking about it here and found it interesting that we never had heard of that term before.

PS - I forgot one more thing. We always called the running around the Running Fits. Boxers seem to be well known for this. Every so often they just HAVE to run around like mad! :)

Just thought of another trait or boxers have had. 9:00pm and its time for bed. No ifs ands or buts! If you stay up later they try to stay with you but many times will just go get on their beds. If you get up or finally go to bed they wake up and give the look "I've been waiting for you to go to bed for ages!".

okay, here's one I don't think I've seen listed. When Jake's bowl is empty, he'll stand over it, tap his paw on it and then look at us. We ask him, "whatch ya want Jake?" He then taps it harder (sometimes fipping it) as if to say (in a deep voice-as we imagine his doggy voice, "this...filled..." It's a game for us now.

JAke is a big time kidney beaner when we get home, we call him crab dog cuz he's gets to walking sideways like a crab with his nose touching his butt.

Also, he does this snorting (like a horse) and stands on his hind legs making this noise when he smells deer on our walks, he'll actually start scratching the ground like a bull ghetting ready to charge, but he's not really pulling me cuz there's still slack on the leash.

He's extremely jealous when we give affection to our other dog without showing him the same amount, you could see it coming on his face, a deep look of disgust and then he tears into her cuz he's mad. (She's a pittbull who's at least 20 pounds heavier) Poor Jessie will just sulk away. It's not funny that he tears into her but what's funny is the expression on his face as he gets angry, you can see his face change.

He also is a sideways jumper, meaning instead of jumping forward, he will jump to his right or left without turning his head in that direction. Get what I mean? Usually he does this when Jessie and him are playing as if to say, HA! betcha can't do this, I'm so slick.

Poor Jake was banished from my bible study b/c of his stinky farts.

My boxers share a lot of the mentioned traits. They are very gassy at times and definitely rank. My fawn male does the kidney dance quite often and both of them get the elvis look, you know the one when their lip gets caught on their bottom tooth? :) I can definitely relate to the eye goobers and the snorting not to mention the snoring..sounds just like a man! My female loves to give kisses and will get right in my face and shower me with them. :) Boxers are very sensitive breeds and get their feeling hurts very easily. Both of mine love riding in the car sticking their heads out of the window and gums just a flaring! So funny! I wouldn't own any other breed, they definitely keep you entertained.

i always thought the funniest trait my boxer titus showed was when i am diving in my truck he likes to be close to me so he stands puts his feet on one of my legs and rests his head on my arm that is at 12 o'clock on the steering wheel and looks out the window.it never amazes me at how hyper a dog can be and then you see just the opposit at how lazy he can be when he wants to just get close to you.

Hi all.
Ive been going thru the forums and picking up ALOT of usefull info.

We just rescued a 10 yr old Boxer named Buster from being put to sleep.
Long story, but Ill shorten it up.. His "daddy" had a massive heart attack while on vacation last year, and "mommy" tried to take care of him, but failed.

Anyway.. Traits...

the "Buster Burn" --mad rush around the back yard....trying to get me to chase him.

GAS -- OMG!!!! its horrible!!! LoL Wife keeps blaming me for it.

Attention getting... Ill be sitting at the computer and he'll come up and knock one hand off the desk just so I can pet him..

We've had several dogs in the past, but this is my first boxer, and Ive gotta say, Ill probably never own another breed of dog.

Hi again everyone.
it's been a while since I posted, nice to be back.

On boxer traits...
Around our house we call kidney-beaning
'going pretzel'
Kiva loves to do this coming down the staris as we get home I have no clue how she manages not to fall but she doesn't.

Burning around the backyard- yep
guilty looks -yep.
heavy head -yep
complete roll over on back, paws up, on soft cushiony surfaces only though.

She also plays the "I'm taking this and your chasing me" game.
Gotta love-em!
