I have always let my shih tzu sleep with me bc he is so little....but with Duchess there is another reason. When she was little she was sick and the vet said it was very important not to let her get cold. So of course i let her sleep with me while she was recovering and by that time she was hooked and I would have missed her sleeping there with me!

Duchess is a very beautiful girl. I went into your gallery and took a look at Duchess and I couldn't help but smile at all your photos. She is so adorable and sweet looking. How can you NOT want to sleep with her.

The first night we brought Mugsy home, we tried keeping him in his crate, but he cried so loud and kept us awake for most of the night. We brought him into bed and ever since then, he's slept all night. It's weird when I'm away or he's at my mom's and not sleeping with me. I guess I'm used to him. he sleeps right between Dh and I and usually his head is resting on one of us.

Yup, I know exactly what you mean. We act like we're doing them a favor by letting them sleep with us, but what's really going on is they're doing us a favor by sleeping with US! I miss my Zoey too when she decides she'd rather sleep on the couch or her bed. But she usually always ends up back in bed with me. It's the same story with me and zoey....when I first brought her home at 8 weeks old she cryed so much that I gave in and put her in bed with me. She stopped crying and has been in bed with me since then. I can't sleep without her now. It's amazing how many people really do sleep with their doggies. I'm happy to hear it's a lot more then I thought.

I did the same. I put 8 week old Cosworth in the bed the first time and he crawled under the covers and up between my arm and my side and begin to snore with in a minute. He's been there every since.

However I don't worry about his comfort anymore. If he's trying to steal my spot I just move him out of the way. He never leaves, so it must not bother him that much. :D

For me, it was really a long, difficult decision. Growing up, we were not allowed to let the boxers sleep with us. Mom would let them have beds beside ours, and sometimes I would get in the floor and cuddle with Buckwheat (our poor old guy!, waiting for me at the bridge for many years now!) But, when I got Max (also at the bridge, now) a few years back, I lived alone and at the time, he was my only dog. So, he ended up sleeping with me. And, now Roxy shares the bed with me. It may make me sound pathetic, but I am a single girl and it makes me feel good to have something to love and hug in the bed with me. There is no husband or boyfriend to speak of, so Roxy keeps me company! And, I am so thankful to her for that. When a boyfriend does come back around, he better understand that she is a permanent fixture in the bed. She is my baby!

Very well put! I agree fully and I'm in the same situation. And NO, you're not pathetic at all. You love your baby and I love my Zoey too. It's just the way it is.

Well, I was in a long term relationship for 7 years and so I hadn't slept alone since I was 20 years old. And my ex and I shared our bed with 2 boxers...so when I rescued Diesel, I was lonely and it was really a no-brainer to get him into bed with me. Then I saved my Indy girl, and she's little, so she doesn't really take up much space. So they've always been in my bed.

However...I got a new mattress last week, which was expensive and I don't really want it ruined. And also the guy I've been dating has officially become my DBF...and stays over sometimes, so we don't always want canine assistance. Diesel is very attached to me, and barked for an entire night when he couldn't cuddle with me, so that's somewhat awkward. I still want the furkids in bed with me sometimes, but I'm thinking I want it to be "invitation only". So for now I am being very strict that they must use only the spare room. Thankfully I put my old queen bed in there for them...I couldn't have them sleep on the floor or dog beds or something less civilized!!

Roxy has always slept in the bed with my husband and me. When she was a pup, she couldn't stand to be in her crate - i guess it was a little separation anxiety from her littermates. I couldn't stand her whining, so I just put her in our bed. And, she's been there ever since. I love having her sleep with me - especially on the nights when my husband is at work (he's a cop). She actually thinks that the bed is hers! When we are watching tv in the other room and she decides she's tired, she goes into our bedroom and hops on the bed. She's my crazy girl!!

WOW, sounds like me, I was in a long-term relationship for 11 years but it just didn't work out at the end, and yeah, I was seeing him on and off after that, but that's done now too....(thank God)!! I see him only as a part-time friend now and that's it. And I just recently bought an expensive brand-new mattress too. However, right after that Zoey had to pee on it. Thank goodness I got stain-guard on it because I could get it wiped up completely. She's been good since then and haven't had any troubles. I understand the part-time by invitation only to your furbabies. They don't quite get it, but that's too bad. Zoey's welcome to sleep with me all the time...(no man in my life at the moment, and liking it). Boxers are definitely the best.
