I called this morning and Chance's Vet is on vacation all week :( So we will have to see the only other doctor I like today at 4:45. The swelling hasn't gone down anymore since the last time I posted, so I am hoping we will have the problem fixed the next time I post. I just want to say thank you again for everyone's advice, thoughts and vibes for my little boy, we both appreciate it very much :) I will let everyone know the results after 5 today, until let's keep those fingers and paws crossed for good news :)

Angleheart you hit the nail on the head ;) (Un)fortunatly he didn't want to rush right into surgery, so we have to give it a few weeks to see if it will clear up on it's own, or if we will in fact have to go the surgery route :( We also discovered a bump near his paw in the process, that looked eerily similar to the one he just had removed about 2 months ago. My poor guy he just can't seem to catch a break lately. The vet thinks the hematoma was brought on because of his issues with yeast ( he is having one of the worst flare ups we have seen yet) so he gave us some Ketoconazole to take every day for 40 days and Zymox drops for his ears to use once a day for 10 days. He also wants me to increase his benadryll doses to 3 times a day instead of once a day until we clear up the yeast issue. So thanks for the advice now we are asking for extra vibes if you can spare them until we can get over this latest hurdle and maybe my little man will get the break he very much deserves :) Thanks again guys, you're the best.

Many more healing and positive vibes going out to Chance!! I hope the meds and time will take care of the hematoma. Hope that bump on his paw is nothing serious. Hang in there, Chance, your mommy is taking good care of you.

Healing vibes to Chance...

I've been trying to remember what we did when our Weim had an ear hematoma, but my brain just isn't bringing it to the surface. She used to get ear infections fairly often from food allergies, and if she scratched too much, she either ended up with a bloddy ear or a hematoma. Once we found a food that worked for her, her ears were never that bad again. I hope you can get this under control soon!

Oh Debbie, believe me I have been trying for some time now. I have him on a new food that is supposed to be very good for dogs prone to yeast problems. He has only been on it for almost 5 weeks and the lady where I buy it told me it could take 12 weeks or more to notice a difference, so we are waiting on that as well. If you remember what you did to help your pup out please share. I feel so bad for him anything I can do to bring him atleast a little bit of comfort I am willing to try :)

Well, I can tell you this at least - We did not have the ear surgically drained. The vet mixes up their own antibiotic drops and we had to fill her ear twice a day and hold her ear flap until it soaked into the canal. I can't remember if we used any oral antibiotics, but I don't recall prednisone being used.

Lucy left us in 2006, and this was when she was about 4 years old...so somewhere around 2000? I doubt the vet's office still has her records handy, but I can ask about the drops to see what was in them.

Brady had a hematoma also. The vet said it didn't hurt, just felt odd because of the weight. I decided right away I didn't want the surgery done. They drained his ear and put some fluid in the actual hematoma to try to keep it from filling up again. It did end up filling again so we just left it go. Vet said his ear would form scar tissue and be a little deformed but I didn't care. If he had to go under for something else, I would have had it surgically fixed but just for that it wasn't worth the anasthetic risk. There is another thread here on hematoma that I posted pictures of how Brady's ear healed. It wasn't too long ago so if you search, you should be able to find it. If I could log on from my computer I would find it for you. Good luck!

So it really will go away on its own? Any idea how long it will take, I am sure hoping it isn't 2 months ;) For his sake he is just so mopey and I can understand why. If my ear was that fat I wouldn't be to happy about it either. He did give us ear drops to use and he started them right there in the office and I gave them to him again this morning. He is hoping with the use of the Prednisone, Benadryll and the Ketoconazole it will help kick his outbreak/yeast infection faster. I don't like having to give him all these meds but if it is going to help him I am willing to try :) My only question is how do you keep him calm and relaxed? The vet said to keep him as calm and relaxed as possible so the Hematoma will go away faster, but he is just so used to following me everywhere when I am home, the only way to keep him doing nothing is to put him in his crate. He doesn't mind it because I have it set up like it were his own little "den" and it's quite comfy, but I hate the idea of crate bounding my baby for as long as 2 months until this thing clears up. Any ideas please throw them at me. TossBranAbi I will search for your thread and see if I can find anything else I can use. Thanks again for all the thoughts and suggestions. PS Believe me surgery is the last thing I want to put him through too, but if it needs to be done we are going to have the bump on his foot removed at the same time too.

When a dog has yeast problems you should avoid all grains. I would try a raw natural diet or maybe a home cooked diet.

Good luck!
