Thanks Jan, she didn't mention that. I will definitly look into that. I had him on a completly grain free formula but the pet store in our area stopped carrying it so she recomended I try the Eagle Pack Holistic Formula which is what he is on now. Thanks again, I appreciate all the input I can get. Chance is my first boxer and by the time everything is said and done I just may be an expert with everything we have been through ;)

Ok so I realize this is going to take a while to heal up on it's own. But last night after I put the drops in Chances' ear he shook his head and he actually yelped. This is the first time he has done this since the hematoma showed it's ugly face and my heart actually stopped because I had thought he popped it open judging from the way he cried out. I hate putting my boy through this and Saturday will be a week. Does anybody have any ideas as to what I can do to help him out?? My FIL came over the other day and saw his ear and he freaked out saying he was going to take him in for surgery himself because it's just plain mean to make him suffer for however long it takes to clear up, and made me feel worse than I already do. Now I don't like doing this to him one bit, but if the vet opted to wait, should we wait or should I ask his regular vet about it when he gets back from vacation? The swelling hasn't gone down at all, in fact it actually got a little bigger. I am doing cold compresses twice a day, once in the morning before I go to work and then again when I get home after we all eat dinner. I am sooo worried about him and I want to do whatever I can to comfort him but I feel like I am beating my head against the wall :( So please if anyone has any ideas or suggestions at all (please I am at the point of begging) please leave them and maybe I will find something that works. If he wasn't so sad Chance would give you all wiggles and kisses to say thanks for whatever relief we can maybe get him. Thanks from me too ;)

Oh, poor Chance!! :( And I don't blame you for being upset and worried, I would be too, particularly with his crying out like that, and the swelling is not going down and getting worse. Do you think the meds are helping him? Would you consider a second opinion, maybe with an internal medicine specialist? Sending your baby boy lots more healing vibes.

I agree with the above.

Well first let me start by saying thank you for all your thoughts and vibes for my baby boy, I appreciate them very much. Chance is in surgery as we speak :( I came home last night and his entire ear was swollen and purple. So of course I went into panick mode, tried to call the vet and no one answered the phone (it was 5:55 and they close at 6) So I stayed up with him most of the night soaking his ear every 30-45 minutes trying to relieve some of the swelling for him but of course it didn't work. I got him in at 7:30 this morning and as soon as the doctor saw it, he took him right away for surgery. I pick him up at 11 so until then if any of our boxer buddies are up, please say a small prayer for Chance that his surgery goes well and so does his recovery. I will update you all when I get him back home, until then I will sit here and of course worry until I can see for my self that my little man is going to be ok. Thanks again everyone, I really do appreciate the fact you take time out of your day to listen to me ramble and try to help my little guy out. Talk to you all soon.

More healing vibes for Chance.
Poor guy.
I would have been in panic mode also, so don't worry about that.
It's a natural reaction when our babies are hurting and we don't know how to help them.
Just know we are hoping all goes well, which I'm sure it will.
We'll be thinking of you. Keep us posted.

Well we're home. The surgery went very well, he is still quite dopey but I think that is a good thing. It turns out the hematoma was infected which is why it grew so rapidly and started turning colors. The vet said his ear was as full as it could get with blood (sorry) so now he probably has 6-12 stitches in his ear. He left it open at the top so it could drain and heal from the inside out. He gave me antibiotics and a cleansing solution to use twice a day and we go back in three weeks to get the stitches removed. They have a paper cone around his head and he said to leave it on for as long as possible to prevent Chance from trying to scratch at it and for when we have to be away at work. He was wiggling away when we picked him up so I know he doesn't hate me too much, but I can tell he really hates the cone :( That thing really throws him off balance and he doesn't seem to want to drink with it either, so I am sure I will have take it off for supper and so he drinks. We just have to keep a third eye on him at all times to make sure he doesn't do anything to hurt himself further. Thanks again for all your kind words and thoughts, they worked again as expected. Now we just have to hope and pray that the recovery process goes just as well. I will continue to keep everyone updated as we go down the recovery road and hopefully I will have my happy baby boy back soon :) Thanks again it is so nice to be able to come here and talk to people and not feel like a weirdo because I love him as much as I do, and to know that you all are just as compasionate as I am about our babies. Thanks goodness for Boxerworld and all of it's wonderful members and moderators all over the world. I will check back in soon I promise ;) until then please keep the vibes coming so his recovery process goes off without a hitch :)

Very good news.
I am so happy for you and Chance.
I am sure you are also relieved that his ear will finally start healing.
You are a great mom to your baby.
I would expect nothing less than how you reacted in this situation.
I'm know I would have been as upset as you.
Lot's of healing vibes to help Chance along.
Lexi sends just a few wiggles this time but lot's of love. She doesn't want to get Chance to excited today while is recovering from his surgery.
Keep us posted on you baby.
