back to square 1

I am so frustrated ... things are begginning to get rediculous!

Dr. Hoegemeyer called me back and wanted to refer me to the dreaded Animal Diagnostic Clinic - he had forgotten that that was the name of the place I've been having problems with already. But, he gave me the name of another Doctor who should have no problem seeing Asia ...

So, I called (AGAIN ... for the millionth time TODAY ... I know they're getting tired of me but I don't even care) and spoke with someone who actually knew what they were talking about!

I DO, in fact, need to go to Texas A&M. The two Doctors we were referred to at the Animal Diagnostic Clinic looked at Asia's chart together. I finally got an explanation as to WHY they can't do it. Since Asia is so young with a heart problem, they need a color dopplar something or another (forgot what the machine is called) because they are telling me it is more than likely a birth defect.

Sooo, the woman I spoke with gave me the number to Texas A&M, which I will be calling today to let them know they will be getting a fax from Dr. Zoltner first thing tomorrow morning. Then, tomorrow I will be able to call and make an appointment.

I also made an appointment with our regular Doctor Moore at the Banfield in Frisco for tomorrow afternoon - for a second opinion, plus Asia is due for a comp exam. I'm hoping they'll find something there and tell me it isn't her heart, but who knows ... like someone previously said, when it rains, it pours. I'm going to have Dr. Zoltner fax over Asia's X Rays and possibly even have Dr. Moore run another EC/KG (I don't know if that is the same thing or different) when she is an excited 1 year old Boxer, and not an excited 1 year old Boxer who just collapsed ....

This is SUCH BAD TiMiNG!! Any time is bad timing, but this is really bad timing. Saturday we need to go to a joint-anniversary party (which we probably won't be attending now), Sunday is Fathers Day, and Monday and Tuesday, Mark has a golf tournament.

So, I probably won't have any new news until tomorrow, unless something happens with Asia tonight, which I pray it won't.

I'm still so frustrated, though ... :(

((((HUG)))). You need to grab a glass of wine and Asia and just sit yourself down and relax. You poor thing. What chaos and confusion, which is the last thing you need right now. I am so so sorry you are going through all of this. I bet you are relieved to be seeing your vet tomorrow. Just take it hour by hour or you will make yourself nuts. Give Asia a big sloppy kiss for us. Hang in there Haley.

also inquire about a holter monitor (or maybe they already talked about this with you?) because it looks at the hearts activity over a lengthier time period (ie: 24 hours?) vs. just an ekg that monitors for a few minutes and if any abnormality does not happen to occur during those few minutes then you still may not be certain that one does not actually exist. obviously if you look for 24 hours IF there is anything abormal in the hearts activity you will be more likely to catch it. obviously i am not a vet, just passing on what i learned with our experiances with dear Peanut. we also had the ecg done, after we had resuults of the ekg and heart xrays. But did that make sense? ;-)

peanut was also on sotalol for almost 2 years and she never had any fainting episodes while on it, it was very effective...she was able to play and run and still hike for a long time (although i was more careful about that). the med is used for humans....we got it at the pharmacy rather than the vets office here, and it always came iwth a warning for Peanut not to be driving an automobile or machinary :) But seriously, it really worked well for her, and for her diagnosis, for several years.

keeping you in my thoughts and prayers. you hang in there and give lots of snuggles to asia right now. they have such amazingly strong spirits and hopefully before you know it you will have her on some sort of specific treatment plan for whatever it is that is going on and you will be able to feel a little more confident and at ease.

Gosh, what a fiasco! Let's hope that things go smoothly from now on. Frankly, it sounds like you should be glad you aren't going to the Animal Diagnostic Center since it seems they can't get their act together. It seems to me that Asia's age should have nothing to do with whether they can treat her. Belle was only 4 months old when she was diagnosed with DCM, her age didn't matter, she was sick with a dilated cardiomyopathy, and they treated her. It sounds to me more like they don't have the doppler echocardiogram machine to perform the necessary test to determine if she has DCM. Once this echo is performed, you should know what is going on. Also, not to add more to your troubles, but when you take Asia to the vet tomorrow for her exam, don't let them give her any immunizations at this time. It will definitely not hurt for Asia to wait a few weeks to get her shots, however, it might cause her harm to get her shots right now since you don't know for sure what is going on with her.

Hang in there girl!!!! I know this will probubly not help but I guess it is better for the vets to get there s**t together then to jump in and have them do something to your baby that is not needed. Plus ALL of us here are praying for your baby and you know how these vibes can heal just about anything :). We are all wishing and praying for your baby to be back to perfect health ASAP. Please keep us posted!!!
Lots of boxer hugs and kisses from Darby

Haley--I caught your first post the other day, but have been riddled with internet connection issues. I just logged on and was able to read all of your posts. I'm so sorry you are going through this. You are very fortunate, though, to have a vet in the family (OK, I realize he's not exactly in the family, but you know what I mean). He should prove quite helpful to you. I hope you are able to get the answers you need soon, though I'm sure "soon" isn't soon enough to ease your mind (it wouldn't be for me). Tae and I will keep you and Mark and Asia in our thoughts.

I second Albie's advice on the immunizations. Wait until you get a definitive diagnosis on Asia's heart. Lewis had no immunizations after his diagnosis because he was usually sick a couple of days after his shots. Holden did get his immunizations after diagnosis, but even then I did not give them all at one time. Our vet gives a free exam, no office call fee, with vaccines, so it never added to the total bill, only the number of trips to the office.

The Holter Monitor was the device used for Holden to determine he suffered from BCM. He wore it for 24 hours and was tested yearly with the device. His last checkup was very good, so when he collapsed while walking we were stunned.

Have the glass of wine tonight and call your regular vet tomorrow to get a referal to A and M. They will have the answers.

Haley, Mark And Asia-

I just caught this thread now and I am sorry youre having to go through this, its making it even harder that no one is answering your questions. Hopefully, everythign will turn out ok for Asia and she can get back to her normal routine. If theres anythings you have questions about, I would adress them to you regular vet when you go in for a visit so he can clear it up for you.

As far as i can remember, being in the hospital with my bf when he had his heart attack, EKC and ECG are the same thing.

Cinny and I are pulling for you guys, and were keepin gyou in our thoughts. I hope it doesnt turn out to be anything that cant be helped. and I hope you get the answers your looking for soon

Good luck and please keep us posted! I fyou have any questions, keep posting the,, Im sure someone on here can answer them!
