You can do it!!! I loved to smoke. It has been nine months since my last smoke and now I think they stink!! Isn't that great? Keep your hopes up and remember when the crabbyness sets in, that one day soon you will feel better, life has gone on and you no longer need to smoke to get by! I promise;)

March 15th was my quit day

I have smoked for a few <ahem> years  actually from the time I got my first job as a teenager <not so long ago> :D Over the years I have made a few attempts to quit. My first attempt I went cold turkey, ended up in Emergency, crying my eyes out, totally knotted up, thinking I was having a heart attack  and my body would not stop shaking  After numerous tests, I told the doctor I had quit smoking just 10 days prior cold turkey. He looked at me and realized I was suffering hourendous withdrawal. He too had been a smoker so he was kind and understanding. He gave me Lorazepam to calm me down (Great Drug BTW) I was on 3 tabs daily for 21 days. It worked and I didn't smoke for 5 months. Late one night I got a phonecall that my son had been involved in a roll over accident. I freaked, grabbed my husbands smokes and smoked like I had never quit. smashicon
A few years later, I did the patch. Once I hit the second level on the patch, I had no more cravings so I never filled the 3rd prescription. Bad thing to do smashicon Within a few weeks I was sneaking smokes and enjoying every one of them. I then went on Welbutrin, quit for 6 months, then started this job I have now!! I began smoking again, joining all the other smokers outside in the beautiful garden they have for the smoking area. We do not smoke inside our home either, frankly I cannot stand the smell of cigarrette smoke in the house. I find it appalling, and I am a smoker
March 15th of this year, was my quit date. After seeing my mom battle cancer (she was a non smoker) sitting with residents hooked up to oxygen as they were dying from respiratory diseases I figured enough is enough. This was enough to inspire me. I quit for 10 days, getting bitchier and bitchier as the days went by. It got so bad, a co-worker sat down with me and pointed out my lack of patience and "wicked tongue" I began smoking, but limited myself to only 3 a day. I am now up to 1/2 pack a day smashicon I truly do not know what it will take to get me off the nicotine. If we did manage to support one another on here I will try and beat it with all of you once again. I am terrified of weight gain, so maybe that is what is subconciously stopping me I dunno

Cubby> a video of you doing your cheerleading dance may just be the inspiration I need :D  especially if you show a knee or two in it ;)

Give me a quit date everyone, I will join the train ride ;)

OK....I am saying no more at all after 5-16-03...two weeks. If I remember correctly it took about two weeks on the Welbutrin before they tasted so bad, I could not stand the thought of them. I will try to stop completely before that if at all possible but absolutely none after the 16th.....oh boy oh boy...we can be B*tchy together!! A whole great big ol bag of B*tches!! smashicon Won't this be fun???

I will say I am very proud of the ol Cubster for making it 10 weeks..that is great...you stick with it there, buddy...but we still want to see those knees! ;) djk

So May 16th is the quit date??? Okay, send some good BW vibes this way, and include some extra vibes for my husband who will surely suffer, my staff who will be the bearers of my short patience and Clyde and Kailee, who although I will still cuddle and kiss them to death, I am sure they too will note a change in Mom's usual fun loving nature. :)

I will say I am very proud of the ol Cubster for making it 10 weeks..that is great...you stick with it there, buddy...but we still want to see those knees!

Yep, I guess I have to admire him for his success

Seriously C, congrats, you are stronger than I am.

BTW Deb, he has VERY nice looking knees :D

You can do it, Deb! I quit about 22 years ago, and haven't had a craving since! I didn't go cold turkey, but I cut down on the number of cigarettes and the nicotine content until I thought I could quit. It took about a month. But now they have the patch and wellbutrin to help. Wish I'd had those, but the important thing is to keep on quitting until you finally do quit. It's difficult to do, but it can be done.

Congrats to all of you who have quit or are still in the process of trying to quit!!!

Debbie you CAN do it!!!!
I quit a year ago April 14th :) I used the patch and drank TONS of water and I have not touched a cigarette since.
Also, 10.00 a pack here (in US funds it works out to a stick of gum and a toothpick), but it's pretty pricey so that was also a HUGE incentive for me.
CoNgRaTs Cubby and Debbie!!!! We're rooting for you!!! appicon appicon appicon

Today is a month of not smoking for me

I quit smoking last month, the only thing I am having problems with is that I do not want to go out with my friends I have no idea why? I think it is because they smoke and I know if I go with them and they smoke in front of me I will end up having one. So instead I would rather stay home where I am safe from smokers  *lol* I make them sound like the evilicon .
The problem with quitting for me is not that I crave them I have a major habit of smoking as soon as I get into the car, I think about having a smoke, Taking jersey out for his pee break I think about smoking, after I eat I think about it. I have honestly thought to myself why don't I just start smoking again and quit later this year but I have not given in, although the thought is in the back of my mind.
In the past week I have started to smoke a cigar once a day (the little colts with the plastic tip) I don't think this was a good idea because I want to inhale them  just like I would my smoke.
I quit once before 3 months ago and went for a month and was having no problems at all, and then gave in because that's all my husband would talk about. (He quit with me) He went on and on about how much he needed one so finally thats when I gave in.
So he has quit again with me this time and is doing IMMENSLY great!!!, And now I am struggling. I know I will try my best to stay nicotine free and I hope everyone else on here trying to quit suceeds. It encourages me to know that there is other people going thru the same thing as I am right now.
