Josi has done fairly well today and it appears that the IV meds have finally wore off. She is still on tramadol 3 times a day, so she is still quite sleepy, but does not appear to be off in another world. She has given loads of kisses today and is eating and drinking like there is no tomorrow. The doctor said to continue to give her however much she wants just in smaller amounts throughout the day. She has gone through another chicken breast-rice-all mixed with a little kibble (only way I can get her to go for that). We still haven't had a number 2 just a few toots outside and a bit of leaky pooh (sorry to be so graphic) and she yelped out in pain when I tried to wipe her bum. I wish I knew why her tail/bathroom area is causing her such stress. Her legs don't seem to bother her at all, they are just extremely stiff. She let me rub her belly today and instead of the usual legs falling spread eagle, they just stuck straight up in the air. I started to do some range of motion exercises with her while she was laying down like the bicycle (did this after the tplos) and she tolerated, but I felt like I couldn't barely bend her legs. Her spleen incision appears to healing well and the nurses did remove her stitches in her neck from her tumor two weeks...poor girl. I promise I will continue to post with updates throughout this recovery process.

appicon Good girl Josi, you are one tough little lady. I hope mommy can cook fast enough for you.

I am happy to see she is doing so well. She is so lucky to have you. :)

Our night went pretty well. Our wonderful local vet actually called us from his home last night to check in on her. He has been calling almost daily to see how she is progressing and offer us advice and most importantly support. He suggested that I slow down on the chicken since it is straight protein and will cause her stools to be hard. He suggested we mix her dry food with pumpkin since it is a terrific source of fiber which she loves. That seemed to do the trick because Josi took her first BM late last night another one earlier this morning. They are like globs of tar so that can't feel good, but atleast she is getting it out. Josi also surprised us last night by rolling herself three times and actually getting to her feet on her own. The one thing that is terrifying us is her constant licking to her bum/tail area and when I mean constant, it will actually wake her from a dead sleep almost every 1/2 hr. I wouldn't be so concerned with this, but it causes her to start panting very hard causing her heart to race and the gums/tongue turn quite pale which can't be good on her cardiomyopic heart. Our local vet said the tail sensation is actually a sign that the nerves in the region are trying to heal themselves and the fact that she has feeling are all good signs. I have already placed a call this morning to her ICU nurse to see what is the best way to handle her when she starts the panting episodes, but I am still awaiting the phone call back. I will post later with what the hospital said and how are day goes. Thank you all for continuing to check in on us...it makes all of us feel very good:)

I'm so glad to hear Josi is continuing to improve! I noticed too when Austin would lick his incision or lick up what drained out of it that he would pant heavily afterward. It was like he just ran a mile or something.

Oh my gosh exactly...just like she ran a marathon. Like I said I wouldn't be as concerned if she didn't have a heart condition. What did you or your vet attribute the panting too...pain? And most importantly what did you do to help him because I feel so helpless. Needless to say I am still awaiting my phone call back from the hospital, but I left another message at 12:30. Josi is laying next to me right now on the laptop and she perked her head up to see what I was typing. I told her that mommy was posting to all our boxerworld friends and she said to tell you all and your babies THANK YOU for sending her all those wonderful get well vibes. She had another bm awhile ago so hopefully her tummy atleast is feeling better. I also noticed her tail really twitching when we came back in, don't really know if that is good or bad, but atleast it is moving. She did let me massage and bend her legs a little bit and even allowed me to put some neosopirn on some of her leg sores. Until next time...

I didn't mention it to my vet. I don't think Aus was in pain, only because he had that morphine patch on. I would just pet him and tell him to calm down already! I guess all that licking is hard work! Maybe Josi's nubbie is tingling, like when your foot falls asleep and the feeling is coming back. That would have to be annoying to her.
