Never a dull moment is right! Although Josi's lip swelling did not get worse over the night and today, it never got much better either. This is soo frustrating and heartbreaking, I can't even begin to describe how I feel. On top of the extra shot of pred. plus another 100mg. of benedryl, I would have thought things would have gone down by early this evening, but she even showed signs of small hives on her lower belly. She is showing no signs of discomfort or itching or pain and continues to go about her regular activities. I spoke with the local vet around 5 and he said to up her benedryl dose to 75mg. and speak with the oncologist about uping the pred. dosage. When I spoke to the oncologist a little bit later, she was also somewhat surprised that the swelling hadn't decreased. She felt if this was an allergic reaction it would have subsided on its own by now or atleast with the assistance of all the meds. She is questioning whether this maybe a new flare up of her what has been stage 2 but doormant mast cell cancer. While this thought does make sense, I can't even believe it and I am angry that my sweet baby would have to endure more on top of everything else. The oncologist asked that we up her dose of pred. to 30mg. a day for the next 5 days and come have her ultrasound on Monday. She is hoping the additional pred. will calm whatever is going on and give her a better idea of what we are dealing with. While I am utterly disgusted with the situation, I have to say that in true Josi fashion she doesn't seem the least bit concerned and her spirits seem to remain high. I will probably need to prepare myself for a food rabid baby this weekend once the additional pred. sets in. I will post in the am. and update you all on how she is doing...
