Our new puppy Roxie

Just another update on Roxie, she's doing good. Mostly potty trained. She hasn't went in the house in almost 2 weeks. With the exception of peeing in the cage. Which isn't her fault really. Unfortunately I work midnights and when I get home at 5am Roxie had just been sleeping for 8 hours when the wife sleeps. So I get her out and try and play with her and wear her out for a couple hours. But then it's bedtime for me. And I'm a very sound sleeper. I sleep through everything. Alarms, phones and yes, Roxie crying to go potty sometimes :(.

But she's really good with the potty training. She kicks the blinds to let us know she has to go out.

We still haven't broken her digging habbit yet. She seems to only dig for plants. She doesn't dig for no reason like most dogs. She actually digs out plants from our garden and runs around with the roots. Lol but we're working on it, and she's slowly improving.

We are planning on making her appointment next week for her to get fixed. She will be 6 months old and we want to get it done before she goes into her first cycle.

So here is a new picture of her. She's getting big fast. She's over 40 pounds now!

Look at that beautiful girl! Getting so big! It is bittersweet, isn't it? No advice on digging. Mine still randomly dig around the yard and they are 6.5 years old!

Please don't rush into getting her spayed. There are more disadvantages than advantages to early spaying. Is if really better to make sure that she is fully mature first. Is best to wait until after her first heat. Do your research first. Don't just do it because your vet says so. Here are a few articles to get you started.

Adorable puppy growing into a beautiful girl! Glad to hear potty training is going well. Good luck on the digging....We lost some bushes, have a two nice sized holes in what used to be a lawn, had the drip system wires/tubes ripped out and a sprinkler head torn out. The bushes I didn't care about because I've always had plans to take them out; I just received some unexpected help! The used to be lawn and drip system on the other hand....

BEAUTIFUL baby girl! Great that potty training is going well. Daisy still has about 1 accident a week. We knew since she was always outside before we rescued her that it would take awhile to fully break her, but we love her just the way she is.

I agree with the advice from Jan, we had our boxer girl spayed at 6 months old and she totally stopped growing after it - may have been a coincidence but she was growing so fast month by month then stopped and stayed a very dinky small girl. Recently I have read that the recommendations are going back to waiting until the dog has matured more.

I know everyone recommended that we seriously consider waiting to get her spayed. But we did it. She is already healed now, and had the stitches removed Saturday.

I do feel bad because I am normally a person that is all about natural life (I eat mostly organic non-gmo and have started to follow a more natural lifestyle). So naturally I feel bad about having done this to our poor puppy.
But me and my wife are very busy and we have never had a dog that wasnt fixed or went into heat before. We wouldn't know how to handle it, and I have a really weak stomach myself. I'm not gonna lie, I know I wouldn't be able to handle it. Also we have a lot of male neighbor dogs and my sister has a boy dog that is not fixed, that Roxie visits a lot. So it worried us.

The breeder recommended spaying anytime after 6 months. I kept reading that some people claim it studs the growth and other claim that it doesn't. I really hope it doesn't slow / stop her growth :( She was growing fast. She's almost 50 pounds already. Everyone that sees her can't believe that she is only 6 months old. And as stated before, her dad was HUGE.

I hope we didn't make a mistake. But we thought it was the right thing to do.

Aside from that Roxie is doing great. She is still hyper as ever. One of the most hyper dogs I have ever seen.

Roxie is beautiful,and I have a 5 month old Boxer that I am not going to breed and she is probably about 44 pounds, and I am also wondering what is the best time to spay her...If this helps for others I had my 1st boxer spayed at 5 1/2 months and she lived to be 13 years 7 months. (she would have been 14 on Christmas eve this year 2014) she did have ACL tear issues at 5 years old, and did have Mast cell cancer at 11 years old.. I would say she was a normal size female in her old age 69-73 pounds. About the digging issues... My crazy girl eats everything and digs.. I put her poo in the places where she is digging...
