Tact and diplomacy doesn't mean lying. It does mean not blurting out something hurtful in a random way. "Hey, you are looking particularly fat and raggedy today!" ain't a comment anyone's going to appreciate, no matter how truthful it might be...

I agree with you. What I mean on saying the truth is some of my friends are afraid to say something as to not offend the other. For example we had a purse party at a friends house and one of my friends like this one purse and they were all saying oh yeah it's a nice purse when they didn't like it b/c the person who wanted to buy it liked it. So my friend who liked it said well I'm going to ask Jenny she'll tell me. And I said I don't like it and explained why. She agreed and then didn't buy it. Believe me I would never say anything that would hurt a friends feelings I would just not say anything.

To tell you the truth, I though boxers weren't the greatest looking before I got one. But you get attached and they grow on you. Plus, no one can say a boxer puppy is ugly! And I still see that adorable little puppy in my boxer now.

I have no idea how you just can't fall in love with their big brown eyes, squishy face, and "mudflaps" as though hubby and I call Junior's lips!

No matter what the situation, when I look at him, he just makes me smile!

Never was a true boxer lover till I owned one. I thought they were quite ugly too. I've had people tell me mine are ugly....I don't let it bother me. They just don't know what they are missing.

One more post and then I'll quit...:) When we first got Scrapper, I know my mother really thought he wasn't the most attractive dog, and I think she was kind of afraid of him. Now, she'll say, "He's so sweet, "he has an 'almost-human' look with those big eyes and short nose" and she loves him.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder!

People tend to either think Mac is beautiful or super-ugly. My mom loves him, but thinks he is really ugly. I just think he is perfectly beautiful:D

It is rude to say that though, I think a number of breeds are ugly, but I don't TELL them that!

I would of been upset too. How can someone say that a boxer is ugly. :o I know she is a friend, but she should of kept that comment to herself. It didn't occur to her that she would hurt your feelings. If I thought someone's dog was ugly, I would no way ever tell them. Again and again I will say, if you are not a Boxer owner you don't know what your missing.:D

My thoughts were the same! Why in the world must people be so rude and show not one ounce of consideration for other people's feelings? It's a good thing my 3 yr old did not hear her say that, or the 11 and 16 yr olds for that matter...they would have been offended too! I am not naive and understand that people have their own tastes and preferences in dogs, but sheeesh, ya don't have to be rude about it! Like I said about the skin-kid....who has ever come right out and said.."man, that's one ugly looking kid ya got there"!! That would just be rude!
I too appreciate honesy, just in a more tactful way! Like Rowdy's Dad said...least now I know not to bother her with boxer talk! I was going to invite her over to see all my beautiful BW Christmas cards, but now I know she does not deserve that kind of eye candy!!;) Too bad...her loss!:D

Well, I can understand, sorta. There are some other breeds I think are not very good looking. However, I think the comment was blunt and unnecessary. I would never tell someone I tought their breed of dog was ugly.
