I have a neighbor who has become quite a good friend in the last year. She has 3 kids..2 boys/girl...I have 3 kids..2 boys/girl, so we share some things in common. She and her family has always loved Xena and say the best things about her. Well, she was telling me that they have put alot of thought into obtaining a dog as a family pet. So, of course I brag about the boxer breed and how great they are with kids, how smart they are and just plain beautiful they are! She hum's and haw's about it making silly excuses for not wanting one, and then she says it...."That's really not my kind of dog...it's yours! And to tell the truth, I think they are the ugliest dogs ever"!!!! Well that hurt! All the nasty things I wanted to say flashed through my mind! Then, I came to an understanding that not everybody loves the breed the way we do, so I accepted her bluntness but stewed about it a bit after! I was certainly offended! Good thing for her that I have control with my "bluntness" because I really wanted to ask her if she has taken a good look at her oldest skin-kid lately!!;) evilicon

HAHAHAAHAHAAHAHAHA. That probably wouldn't have gone over very well, but I would have been tempted to say something like that as well. How can she not think they are the most beautiful babies? She should have been more considerate of your feelings if she is a good friend. smashicon

I guess no one is taught the proper use of tact and diplomacy these days....! It's perfectly understandable that different folks want different strokes, and that not everyone likes our furbabies squishy noses. But, PLEEZE - when did it become perfectly acceptable to blurt out something unkind in the pursuit of "being open and honest?!"

Unfortunately, your friend's mom never taught her the benefit of the "old" adage, "If you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all." Nevertheless, I would try to overlook her blunder and try to enjoy her friendship for what it's worth since you say she seems to like Xena.

And, remember, not everyone is worthy of owning a kingicon Boxer!
:)

Excuse me! I meant to say - Not everyone is worthy of being owned by a kingicon Boxer!

My sentiments exactly!!

I've gotten to be pretty good friends with my neighbor too, and she is a cat person just as much as I am a boxer person. She doesn't really like dogs, but she understands that the boys are a part of our family.

I am a bit surprised at your neighbor's lack of tact, but some people just don't get it.

Like the saying goes "All monkeys think their babies are beautiful". Of course, all boxers are beautiful. You are right, some skin kids are hard on the eyes!!! Sissy ;)

I never let these comments bother me. There are lots of different dogs out there, and we all have our preferences. The beauty of it is that there is probably a "right" dog to suit each individuals preferences for personality and looks. To be honest, there are lot of breeds that I think are ugly. Now I probably wouldn't blurt that out to the owner of one, but I'm not offended if someone thinks my dog is ugly because it's always possible I'd be thinking the same thing about theirs! Boxers are not the right dog for everyone.

I just went to a big dog show in london the other week. I had to use tact when visiting the other dogs. Some I just wanted to say omg arnt they horrible. But I remembered how it used to annoy me when I took my boy out for walks. You either love boxers or your hate them. Its so funny how every human has their favorite breed. I often find it hard how you could like a boston terrier or a Shar Pei. But each to their own I suppose. And for the record, guess which stand had the most attention out of the 180 + dog stands there.

Lol need I say anymore.

When I am with friends, I love "bluntness". I know they aren't trying to offend me and I know exactly where they stand. It also keeps me from annoying them by talking about boxers too much. It also keeps other people from annoying me with something I am not interested in. I listen to alot of talk radio, and I think it has enabled me to listen to all sides of an issue without getting upset. I just disagree with people and go on with my life.

My friends know to come to me if they want the truth! If I like something I tell people the same if I don't. BUT I am not rude about it nor would I EVER say anything about people's babies! It's just not a subject you tred on with bluntness! I accept people's opinions on my boys and most of the time it is good. It's usually strangers that make the rude comments. I don't understand how poeple can say our babies are ugly! but we are a rare breed and we should be honored to be owned by them!
Jenny & Oskar the most beautiful boxer boy! (sorry I'm his mom!)
