If you could change one thing about the breed what would it be?

With regards to Claudia's agression issues....I think we need to change the humans that started with those rescued dogs! It is sad. I rescued a dog agressive female and I felt so helpless, but I feel certain it came about by how she was treated by her owners.

If only that was the case!
Boxers CAN BE a notioriously scrappy breed, REGARDLESS of how they have been raised!
Have you not been reading the many posts here from devoted owners who are now dealing with aggression issues?

One cannot generalise about temperament, because many people spend unlimited hours training and scocialising their dogs to find the outcome unfavourable.
So many factors affect temperament and we should remember that.
Some are big old pussy cats and some are fiesty terrors!

Yes any dog can be made aggressive by bad human management but in many breeds this is a latent part of their personality.
The boxer was bred to be a staunch and powerful opponent.
To this day you will encounter this attitude in many, and of those that are sublime and laid back, not all have been owned by wonderful people.

I myself rescued a dog from a hideous situation and he didnt have a mean bone in his body.
Yet my own bitch Rose, who has been bred from excellent lines, has been extensively trained, socialised and who knows dam well fighting is an absolute NO NO , will get into a dog scrap quicker than a wink, if she feels the need!
I too have nothing but disgust for anyone who treats any animal badly, but temperament has a lot of predisposed factors to it.

Completely Boxer Crazy
Fence climbing and health issues. Samson jumps the fence between my front and back yard. Thankfully, he doesn't go over any other fences. I live way out in the country and have about 1 1/2 acres fenced in. The rest of my property is penned in for my horses and chickens, and then the rest is all very hilly woods. The fence between my front and back yard is very low in one spot (no land is flat here, ha), and he loves to go right over. Also, his health seems sensitive. He is currently on medication for an injured shoulder blade. Delilah is on Benadryl for hives that keep occuring on and off (since 3 days ago). I am tracking what she eats, etc... . I may have to follow up with the vet on her condition. I have to agree, as well, a longer life would be sometime to wish for. As far as drooling, snoring, food dropping on the floor, or any other thing, I would not change it for the world!!!!

I, too, would LOVE to have a harliquin boxer. One of the biggest reasons I want a Dane is to get that color! ;)

They are the coolest colour! I saw the most unique and awesome dane at this All Breed Ch. Dog Show once. It was harlequin with one blue eye and one green/yellow eye. It looked so stunning and cool! The standard says that light eyes are not desirable but they are permitted. That was the coolest dog ever! I would love a dane too...we were trying to choose between boxer and dane and boxer won out. And I'm glad;) Maybe some day when we have more room.

I admit it!

Yes, Debbie, I admit it ....I try to find a human reason for any shortcomings (if there were any) in our dogs. I was so taken aback by the sweet girl I rescued that was SOOO dog agressive, that I tried and tried to figure out why. But my white boxer, Meta, is also a resuce, with a torn ear from probably being used in fighting and she is the sweetest thing around, so I understand exactly what you are saying.

I wish they could all be the sweet things who romp around together, but just like in people, they aren't all great!

Thanks for bringing me back to reality! (though my fantasy world sure is nice)

Well, we were told to pick only one thing, so...... I would go with their health. If their health was improved, they should live longer lives. And the lives they live will have a better quality. SO definitely that!

I too worry about the fact that Tof is already 4.5 and I may only have 8 more years with her..... I love her SO much, she is just my sunshine!

Lifespan definately. Also the snoring. My two boxers snore like mad and when my husband joins in there isnt much sleep going on my part. Thank goodness for earplugs!!!
