Is there anyone in local government that you can call and who may assist? Someone who is voted in and could provide support or perhaps help things along?

I echo that you should ask to speak to someone higher up in the chain. And be prepared with some notes - the date of the first time you applied, the date you were informed that of the lost application, etc.

Try calling your state senator or state representative and maybe even the BBB. Don't know if it would help, but try. I'm thinking the representative may be able to help you out.
As BoxerMom said, take all kinds of notes. Who you talked to, time date, what was said, etc. This can all be helpful information if needed. They can't pass the buck as easily that way. And you have all the details to back you up. Make alot of noise. They hate that kind of thing. Remember, we're all here for you, and we'll be your backbone ;)
You can do this, and don't let them have you feeling you can't. Your paying them, they aren't paying you.

I just called Countrywide again, and I got a nice lady named Jamie. I told her what the other lady told me the other day, that even if it was still in review, that they dont have to postpone the sale date. She said "aww, what a mean lady.... we are not just going to take your house"! She was much more caring and concerned for me. She even said, "wow, you have been going thru this a long time", since she saw I applied back in September. So, now I have a name, and things she said. She said they hope to have my case finished by the 17th. She said to call on the 19th and they can push the sale date back and it only takes 30 minutes or so to do.
So, I emailed the sheriff's office in my county, and I got a reply, and they seemed sympathetic as well. She told me who to call to try to get the sale date pushed back, if countrywide wouldn't work with me. I have to see a common pleas judge and the paperwork has to be done by 10am on the date of the sale. I haven't called that number yet, but I will. Also, she gave me the attorney that's handling my case with Countrywide, so I guess I could call them too. Not sure what they could do.
Thanks everyone for all the suggestions and ideas and support. I will keep everyone posted!!!!!! Hopefully next time I post, it will be good news!

Hopefully next time I post, it will be good news!

Me too.......it sure would be nice to hear some good news these days. Is there a way that you can contact this Jamie again directly and not have to deal with anyone else at Countrywide?? She sounds like the only person you have contacted so far that doesn't hate their job and anyone that disturbs them at all. Good luck to you and I would for sure speak to the attorney, just to find out what they are doing and what their role in the whole situation is. Sending out more good vibes and Aniah sends some more feisty female vibes your way(along with some wiggles and kisses as well)

I am so glad and relieved (as are you too) that you finally got someone who would talk to you. I agree that you need to contact the lawyer. If you call them again, I'd try to speak to her. Ask for her if you have to. Keep up the good work. We're here to support you!! Glad someone's Friday the 13th is going good. :)
