Edgar the Egghead

Edgar hat a pointy little egg shaped head as a pup! Our daughter thought that Edgar just suited him. His AKC name is Edgar Allan Poe of course.

Maxwell's Ma

Boxer Insane
We weren't going to get any more animals. Our last baby died in Oct of the year before we got Max. She was a dog one of the kids brought home for us to save. Our kids were always saving animals. My DH and I had never picked out one of our babies.

One Sunday we went for a drive just to see a new litter of boxers. DH had boxers growing up. Needless to say on the way home (because Max touched my DH's heart) we were basically in shock that we had put a deposit down. I told DH he needed to name the new guy. My DH is a music fan and we were listening to the beatles. Maxwell Silver Hammer came on. That was it. So, that is how Max got his name.

Riley got here name from our Grandson. We threw around name after name. We had to travel a long way to get Riley. On the way home our Grandson was in the back seat with her. He called her Riley and that has stuck.

Izzy and Gus

I had both of my babies names picked out before I got them, but I did wait until I had them home to make it a final name. When I got Izzy, I liked the name Isabella (her full name), but didn't want to call her "Bella" because there are a lot of doggies and kitties with that name. I knew I was getting a female when I went to look at her, and when I brought her home, the name was perfect.
When I got Gus, I knew I was getting a boy, and had already decided on his name too. I went thru a lot of names, but I liked Gus. I was thinking about Joey and Ozzy too, but Gus just seemed perfect for him. I wanted a strong name for both of them, and I thought Izzy was a strong female name, and Gus was a strong male name. Also, one of the Dixie Chick's sons is named Gus, so that's partly where it came from too. I am a HUGE fan, and I liked the name. My sister has a lab named Dixie, after the dixie chicks.

Between my three sons and I, everyone wanted to name our new puppy. So, I decided to let each of my sons pick their favorite name, as did I. We were going to draw a name out of a hat, based on our favorites, but one of my sons didn't think that would be "fair" based on who did the picking of the paper out of the hat. So, we each rolled the dice. The highest number got to choose their name. My youngest son, age 10, rolled a "12". It was pretty much 'game over' and he picked Buster as the name. In the running were: Zeus, Ace and Tucker. Our girl name choices were: Izzy, Elle, Sydney and Zoe. My oldest son won that one and choose Elle, but we ended up with a male puppy. It was a fun way to go about choosing his name and let the entire family get involved. I would do it that way again. It was fun.

Boxer Buddy
On the day I went to "look" at my friends puppies (lol...joke of the year) I saw 7 of the cutest puppies I'd seen in a LONG time. I started to pick them all up one by one and then decided on a brindle female. She was as pretty as the day was long, but she was brindle so I decided that I needed an pretty and exotic name. We (my son came up with the idea) came up with Saphira from the Eragon book series. I thought it was perfect.

Well, that same day there was a cute little fawn that followed him everywhere he went. The momma boxer had no problems with him in the area with her babies, so he laid beside her when she nursed them. When the little fawn was done eating she went to my son and laid in the crook of his neck. I hadn't planned on getting 2 boxers, but the kids asked if they raised the money (i.e. yard sale, eBay sales, and recycling) if they could get the other puppy. After 2 days of going back and forth with DH and I they talked us into it. So, when we went back to visit them again (started at 4 weeks and went to visit every 3 days) I came up with the name Arya (again from the Eragon book series). My son liked it and my daughter liked it too, but she wanted to call her "Lucky" because she was lucky to be coming home with us. LOL

So, that's how we decided on Saphira and Arya (spelled like the book spelling).

It took a couple days after we got her for us to name Venus. My fiance liked some names but all sounded so boyish to me, and I liked others that he didn't like. We just didn't connect until he was sitting there at night holding her and he turned to her and said, you like the name Venus don't you? Then I looked at her and said, I like that name.... So that's how he and I (he) came up with Venus... I think she's taking to it too. :)

Belle

Belle is the middle name of my maternal grandmother and my husband's maternal grandmother. We don't have children, so we decided to name her after our grandmothers.

We picked the name Lexi after several weeks of trying to think of a name for her (we knew we were getting a female 4 weeks before we brought her home). My sister had just purchased a "Lexus". So we changed it up a bit and called her Lexi.

Quincy we picked a few days after we brought him home. We were struggling to think of a name for him. I was watching tv and flipping through the tv guide when I saw "Dr. Quinn Medicine Woman". I liked the name Quinn, but changed it to Quincy so that both our babies names ended with "ee" as both my husband and my name end with "ee".

Bruisersmomi

Well Bruiser was actually named before we even saw him.....lol. My husband always wanted a dog named Bruiser....kinda funny how he ended up being mine:) Kona means coffee bean in Hawaiian, since she is Brindle and has a huge conehead I thought it was the perfect fit:)
