I am in the same situation as everyone else. The whole Candidae formula change is so frustrating. We have been feeding Candiae for the past 6 months and it took me that long to find something he did well on. His tummy is so sensitive and has a lot of allergies, ear tips etc. We were out of town for a week and our little guy lost 9 pounds and still has runny stools. I was trying to give the new formula a chance but its defnitely not even close, I am going to take the rest of it back tomorrow. Now I am stuck and am not sure what to try....Wellness Core or Natural Balance?

I've had fabulous luck with the Natural Balance Lamb Meal and Brown Rice after moving away from Canidae with a dog with allergies and extreme tummy issues.

Ugh, I don't know where to go from here. I order the canidae from petfooddirect and when I went to order tonight, I noticed the weight difference. With the added weight of the 44 pound bags, comes a higher shipping charge. Ordering the smaller bags wouldn't work either. With decreased quality, I don't know what to do. I would like to find a similar priced food but don't want to sacrifice quality and at this point, seems impossible.
I know someone who sells wellness foods so I am gonna check that option out tomorrow. Any other ideas?

To buy locally would be best to save on shipping but that may not be possible. To drive to get canidae, it would be 80 miles round trip. No matter what way I go, I am either gonna have to pay shipping or drive at least 60 miles round trip.

I too have run into the same problem with the food change, and also do mail order due to the inability to find a good food in my area. I have done extensive research on finding a comparable food and keeping down the cost as well. What I learned about the way dog food is made makes me sick. Canidae not only changed its formula to a much higher “carb” based protein and called it “diversified carbohydrates” they are now having their food co-manufactured under Diamond, which imports their grain from overseas markets and has been involved in some recalls. But they are not the only food to do this. Most all of the pet foods are out sourced to save the companies money at the expense of our dogs. And the worst thing about it all is that the food companies will not tell you the name of the plant where they make their food or what other brands are being made in the same plant. The only way to find out who is making which food is to see the recall lists and that is not complete either. On the bright side of things I did however find a food that is fairly good and is made in Minnesota in its own plant and is not out sourced and that is the Supper Premium Nutrisource. Granted this is not the best but is as close to what Canidae was without selling my house or driving 100 miles to get it. I am so bummed that Canidae made this change and I hope with all the people changing foods they will get the hint that they messed up. I am also thinking of home cooking and doing away with the whole dry thing.

I had problems with ASL, max had very bad diarrhea because of the switch in formula. He has been eating it for 10 months now and I finally got a hold of the new stuff and it did not settle with at all.

i find By Nature Brightlife pretty interesting. i'm going to give it a try - because with that new canidae formula, their coats are dull and their poops are GROSS!

Brightlife is chicken and lamb formula, with 28% protein, 18% fat and 5% fiber. it is rated a 5 stars - the only problem, it's super hard to find! i found it on amazon, so i guess i will order it (i would prefer buying from a store.. hmpf...)

(i tried california natural, and i think the lack of fiber (2%) was not good at all for my guys...)

Mia's finishing up her 1st bag of Wellness Core and continues to have taco sh!ts. I've added rice and that won't firm her up. Any suggestions?

You can try either psyllium (metamucil) or regular canned pumpkin (not the pie filling but the 100% pumpkin) 1 TBSP. BUT if you've already gone through an entire bag and her feces still isn't firm then the food may just not be working for her and you may need to find something else as the above is only a short term fix.

Good luck.

I'm looking at ingredients and searching. The only thing I can come up with is the new food has Canola oil in it vs. sunflower oil.
