Max is 22 months old and still squats never have seen him lift his leg. He was neutered when he was 9 months old, don't know if that had anything to do withit but who cares!

Grunt (21 mos) has never lifted his leg, and doesn't squat. He kind of leans forward and lowers his body a little bit and goes. He was neutered at 6 months. My husband still thinks it's a little weird that he doesn't lift his leg, but it doesn't matter to me.

Diesel is 6 months old and is a squatter. His sister, on the other hand, will squat and lift her leg, depending on her mood....she's a little confused!! LOL

Dutch is a year and half and he still squats to pee. He has kicked his back leg out a few times but no more than an inch or two off the ground. I also like the fact that when we walk, he doesn't have to pee all over everything that we pass. My other dog does that. I just don't know where all that pee comes from. It is like and endless supply.

Just a leaner here

At 3, Tugg merely stands and stares off into space. He does push his back legs out a little so as to not pee on himself. He has never achieved a full lift, though I have seen him try a few times. It usually ends up only being about 4 inches off the ground and lasts for about a second before dropping to the ground. I think he is just too lazy to truly squat or lift, it interrrupts his play time!!

Charlie Paper does the same thing 75% of the time. He's never squatted, but he'll stretch out almost like a horse and pee with all 4 firmly planted on the ground. He's not always very cordinated so sometimes when he does lift a leg, he loses his balance, and has to put it back down anyway.

still squatting--at 6 mos.

I have heard that it is a learned behavior and I have also heard something about if you have them neutered before they learn to lift their leg that they will never lift their leg. I don't know what the real answer is but Boggs has always squatted to pee and he was just recently neutered so we'll see what happens. We also have a 10 year old Shih Tzu that has never lifted his leg. I don't think it's that big of a deal. Obviously it's pretty common!

Lewis is 8 mon.old & does both, at the dog park he lifts his leg at home he does the hover thing, stands on all fours and just bends his knees a bit. the first time he lifted his leg my husband & I were so excited, told him he did a big boy pee, people probably thought we were nuts.

Completely Boxer Crazy
Diesel is 26 months old and he lifts his leg sometimes - always when we're on walks - but in the yard he usually just kind of leans forward, bends his knees, and pees from all fours. I'm sure it's easier, and he's a big sleepyhead practically all the time, so when he gets up to go outside, he's groggy and lazy.

Oops, almost forgot one time he's sure to lift his leg. If he's being a dimtwit and peeing in the house somewhere!!! Like on my friend's couch (who I'm sure regrets saying yes, we'll babysit Diesel when you go to Vegas!)!
