Boxer Traits

New Trait

Beamer has a new trait. He sits on his (formerly our) chair and is able to cover himself with a blanket. We finally saw how he does it one day. I always lay the blanket over the back of the chair, so he goes on the chair, circles once, and pokes his nose under on the 2nd spin and finally takes a 3rd spin which removes the blanket from the back of the chair and, voila, he is fully covered from the neck down in a blanket! He is a human with fur! Gotta love those boxers!

my boxer oakley (7 1/2 months) has got one trade mark trait - lounging around on her back with 'her' sock (previously mine) in her mouth, looks as though she has a moustache!!

she sniffs EVERYTHING, sighs and snores loudly, snorts occasionally and tears around the back yard as though the devil is after her.. she also passes gas as though there is NO TOMORROW! oh and dont forget trying to share a couch - its impossible!! and talk about LOVING the car... but the best of all of her traits are when i come home - talk about the pretzel dance... its like shes the letter "C", gotta love boxers...

p.s. what is kidney beaning?

:D LOL!! Kidney bean dance is exactly what your boxer is doing! It's just that you have given it your own very accurate name, the pretzel dance!!:D :D

Wow! What a great site. As the new mother to two 4yr old rescues, I am relieved to find out that my boys are normal. One trait that i don't see here, is their ability to smile. Boy do I get the smiles when they want a treat!!!!
Fraser is a great woo wooer and Ali just seems to be on apermanent valium trip. He is so calm and such an 85 lb baby brindle.
Can any one tell me if I 'm insane to search for a female puppy boxer to add to my family?
Never knowing the breed before and with what I know now I'd love to have a whole slew of boxers. They are so gentle and loving and a lot of fun. My stress level has decreased with witnessing their antics.
Ali loves to kidney bean for meand in true boxer style, as I played with him one day he boxed my head to the ground so hard I thought I had broken my nose!
Silly me to think this giant would be gentle!
Please go easy on me I didn't pick their names!

Boxer traits suprise!

Hi, this is my first post on the list. I just wanted to say how fun it was to read (just about) all of these common boxer trait posts! :D I adopted my first boxer about 5 months ago, and she is absolutely an angelicon Despite abuse and neglect for the first two years of her life, she displays so many of the boxer traits described here! I was amazed to read that all of the quirky behaviors she displays are part of the breed! Boy am I relieved :D Although she is more shy, and slightly less "enthusiastic" than many of the boxers described here, she still does do many of the common boxer things, such as kidney beaning, using her paws like hands, licking herself and everything else compulsively, resting her head on EVERYTHING like it is just soooooo heavy, always wanting to be close to me and her daddy, touching us when at all possible, snoring, snorting, drooling, sneaking onto the bed in the middle of the night, etc, etc, etc...

Lady Liberty

What a pleasure knowing that my Lady is not the only one with these traits. I still do not understand the kidney bean dance. I sometimes think she will just jack knife and bend in half. I noticed everyone talking about gas. My breeder suggested I give lady yougart with her morning meal to prevent this and I must say, it works. Lady does not have gas problem although her snoring could shake the house. When I first got her, I was worried because she would sit on the couch at the far end and curl up and sleep. I wondered why she didn't want to sit next to me and be petted. Boy did that change..................She now takes over the couch usually sitting on top of me. Another strange trait is that when I am watching TV, she will have her butt and back legs on the sofa, her front legs on the floor and her head resting on the coffee table. I get so much pleasure just watching the crazy things she does.

Yogurt vs. gas

I'm sure glad to hear that yogurt works on the gas problem. I'll give that a try. I have a home office, and that's where Cruiser likes to hang out, laid out at my feet while I'm on the phone or the computer. Sometimes he gets up and leaves the room, leaving behind his legacy of (pee-yoo) gas, while I'm stuck here to endure it.

Wouldn't take the world for him, though. We have two other dogs (non-Boxers), and the three are the best of friends. But when I get caught petting one of the others, Cruiser begins to talk frantically, fussing at the dog being petted. If I don't stop, he will come and wrestle the other dog away from his personal human.

I just love this guy!

What great posts!! As I'm reading the traits, I'm comparing them to Rocco and the other dogs I've owned through the years, none of which were boxers. Almost all of these traits are only shown in the Boxers I know. How funny! :) They're so silly. Rocco has just about everyone of the traits mentioned - the kidney beaning is huge - he does it with a jump - I swear he was bred with kangaroo! Just starting to do the woo wooing (my husband's previous boxer did it whenever my husband blew in a squeaker that he tore out of a toy - he would sing along with the sqeuaker's sound). I swear Rocco spends most of his day cleaning his paws like a cat! Another trait that Rocco has is taking the caps off of soda bottles. And if you're sitting up in bed, on the couch or even driving, he likes to just nuzzle his nose into your head - as if he's smelling your hair and admiring your shampoo. Then of course, he'll sneeze in your hair or face :) This is my favorite trait - it's one of the ways Rocco shows us love. Also, Rocco like to have all the attention - if my husband and I are busy doing something, Rocco (who we've had since October and have heard bark maybe 5 times) - will start to growl and bark as if to say, "Hey, you guys...stop what you're doing and LET'S PLAY!!!"
