Boxer Traits

I don't believe that it has to do with dominance thing at all.. Mine do it all the time.. It's like they want there sent all over me so that everyother dog or human know that I belong to them.. That's how I take it. My male shows other ways of dominance but I don't believe that is one of them. With then rubbing into me and laying their heads on me because they think it weighs too much I don't see how I would smell like any other dog. HAHA Plus i have a 80lb lap dog and a 35lb lap dog.. They just love to snuggle!!

My dogs lean into me as well; George more than Gracie. I just take it for him wanting to get as close as possible to me. It also forces me to put my arm around him and then he throws his head back so it's on my chest or shoulder and gives me an upside-down slurp across the cheek or chin. When Gracie leans into me, she usually wants me to scoot over so she has more room on the couch.

My katie has all the aforementioned traits along with a few more entertaining ones. The only time she has real bad gas is when I wont play with her. She then curls up behind my chair and stinks me out. She also can't keep her tongue in her mouth. It gives her such a dumb look, until you look into her eyes. Also, she will jump up and lick anyone who walks into the room regardless of how long they were gone except my pregnant sister. She will just stnad in front of her and wait for the love. I just love her, wild though she is (and i know she is wild because of me, i am such a softy) Katie is the first boxer or even dog I have ever owned. I dont think I will ever have any other kind of dog. But, I must admit, Boxers are not ametuer dog owner types of dogs. I just love their personality.

hi, just been reading about boxer traits, as yourself i'm also a first time boxer mum and loving every part of it. Gas is something we laugh about and she definatly holds the title!!! Shes extremly nosy and very bright doesn't take her long to learn what you are up to!!!, she's very determined-trys, trys and trys again till she gets there. Boxers are definatly a great breed (no matter what traits they have-they are all good) and we have waited almost ten years to have her as we weren't living in an ideal place for a dog untill now and now we have her:) we've never looked back
She doesn't enjoy training very much, so i limit it to about 10-15 mins per session as she just cant keep focus for much longer than that!! thats another trait. So i keep it fun. They are such a joy and you know what they are thinking just by looking at them.

My Mason does all of the above, I always call his random back yard running "figure-eighting". Mason perfers his mommy to love and his daddy to play with. I have to fight for pillow space with Mason EVERY night (usually he wins!)

My Cypress does it all. My favorite is if he is out of food or water he will pick up the empty bowl and bring it into what ever room we are in for a refill. He is pretty self sufficent. And if we are not quick enough he will toss it into the air and play with it then give us sad Boxer face as if to say.... "Can't you see I'm starving here?" And we fill it and he usually ignores it. It is to cute. Just love him and can't imagine a day with out him.

My boxer always leans against us and/or sits against us. I used to think it was a dominance thing but now I just think it's another one of the incredibly cute boxer traits. I really just think that boxers "know" they're humans and want to express being close to their "people".

to LeahR's reply above,
it could be added that if you allow your Boxer to sleep in your bed, it seems that they MUST touch you in some way. Be it their head or just a paw. I've noticed this with my girl and my previous boy. Also another trait is they need to see where your at. If you go to another room, they will come to see where you went. They like to curl up when they sleep, kind of like a cat does. These are added to all the others I've read here.

Hi Fellow Boxer lovers

First, she loves to give "flea bites" - she uses the edge of her teeth to nibble me - when I'm goofing with the kids, she will kind of growl and nibble a little harder - when I laugh because it tickles, she nibbles a little harder - the harder I laugh, the harder she nibbles! I usually wind up on the floor cause my legs won't hold me after laughing that hard, but still with Clari nibbling away!

She is my first Boxer - Oh what an incredible breed!

Our boxer used to do that when my husband was playing with the kids. They were his kids and was very protective of them. He would bark and nibble on my husband. Do anything to put himself between his kids and my husband while not hurting him of course. I thought it was to distract my husband so he would leave his babies alone. It worked most of the time. After reading this, I'm wondering if he just wanted to be part of the fun.
