Boxer Traits

I belong to an 11 year old reverse brindle named Harley, and he does all of those things--kidney beaning, woo-wooing, sleeping on the bed, etc. He also sings on command, and there's absolutely no way you can get out of the house in the morning without some dog spooge on your clothing. Oh, and he also likes to go fishing with us in our little boat. He'll lay down quietly after we anchor and then, when one of us is reeling in, he has to be there to inspect what's been caught. If it's a fish, he licks it, if it's a weed or a worm he just gives you that look like "hey, dummy, that's not a fish!

Traits

We have an almost 9 week old boxer, with many of the traits you guys have listed. I was reading them seeing if my little one is normal or not. She definately does the kidney beaning, jackhammering, kisses, refuses to be alone, and loves to attack our big huskey as though she is a big dog. It is great to see our little Brindle puppy with a big white cotten ball of fur in her mouth from the shedding husky. My only quesiton is what is woo-wooing. I here her talk to us all the time, and some does seem like talking but just curious... and the gas oh yes their is gas.

But we wouldn't have our girl any other way.

Common traits between my boys:

kidney beaning! They twist themselves around like pretzels!
High-jumping when excited
Smiling when content. The corners of their mouths curl up into wide smiles
Sonny Woo-Woos and Andy used to but not anymore.
Hugging - both put their paws on my shoulders, give me kisses and nuzzle my neck
Laying on their backs with their paws up in the air (Andy more than Sonny)
LOVING tummy rubs
Boxing each other
Indefatigable Play
Having real "character" faces - They sure can look sad, neglected, dejected... and on the flipside, big big happy drooly smiley faces
Smart - both dogs are so, so smart.
VERY Friendly to strangers (humans), annoying to strange dogs (they like to go up to strange dogs and box them in greeting)
They both drive my mother's golden retriever nuts!!!!
Very affectionate to each other and my husband and I - slurpy kisses, ear nibblies, nuzzles, cuddles
GAS! Boxer farts smell like skunk spray!
Snoring
Big big sighs

Guard dog. They partrol along the fenceline of our property and peer out the windows of the house. It was SO funny to see Andy, as a little 11 week old puppy, patrolling. He walked along the perimeter (we border a not too busy parking lot), and when someone would come to their car, he would bark and turn his feet inwards to make his chest look 'broader' - it was the talky-woo-woo kind of bark, as if to say, "That's close enough, buddy, just walk away".

He'd see them off, then he'd huff, and start walking along the fenceline again waiting for someone else to come along to tell off.

Spencer has the same traits. I like how he jumps on his toys with his front paws and how he lays he head anywhere it can fit.

So I was reading through some of these posts and my 11 month old Boxer does the same. However, he has seemed really "depressed" lately. Alot of the time, unless we're going to the dog park or taking him to the store, which we do daily- he just sits in HIS spot on the couch and looks mopey. I don't know if this is normal b/c I've grown up with Boston Terriers who play for about 18 hours a day nonstop, perhaps we're being paranoid, but unless he's going somewhere or playing with other dogs he's kind of bleh. If we wrestle with him he's always down for that, even tug of war with his rope toys, but yeah, I don't know. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

I wouldn't worry about Murphy's apparent depression so long as his other behaviors are OK. While boxers are often very active, they also enjoy plenty of snoozing and general down time during the day. (I presume you are not leaving him alone for long periods of time.) If the behavior persists it wouldn't hurt to take him to the vet for a check up, but unless he's obviously ill his quiet times are probably no more than that.

Bella

I'm a first time Boxer owner, and had no idea how distinctive Boxers can be. My little Bella loves to lie on her back and reach after her toys while upside down. Spring loaded feet, too. Beaning like crazy (Mrs. Bean to the rescue....), early mornings, snoring, and no drool :)

It's all good!

I love my furbabies!!! (sorry it is long)

Just sitting here, reading some of the traits of other babies. It is amazing to me how alike boxer people are. You can tell in our posts that we truly love our babies. I have posted before about mine, but I never tire of talking about them. Roxie, 4 year old fawn, was a God send. Our daughter (only child) was moving away for college right after our first boxer baby died from cancer, we were heart broken and then received a call from a neice. They had an 8 month old female fawn and a 8 month skin baby, not a good mix since the furbaby, as we all know, can be rowdy at that age. They were going to give her up, but we took her. She has become momma's shadow(me). When people ask me if I suffered empty nest syndrome, I say "No, I have Roxie."
After my daughter's graduation, for a gift she wanted a brindle boxer, so we got Ginger. Daughter is now getting married and we will be sharing Gingerpoo. Husband, Roxie and I will have her during the weekend. Daughter and new husband will have her on weekends. The girls have been together since Ginger was 8 weeks and we do not think it is wise to separate them. But they are SOOOO funny together. Roxie will "tattle" on Ginger. Ginger always trys to involve Roxie in her games. We hear the woo-woos, the chewbacca, get the good doggie kisses. Ginger loves water, Roxie hates it, they both love anything peanut butter. I think Ginger is more protective than Roxie, but Roxie is better at the loud sighs, and the 'you offended me' looks.
There is nothing better than a boxer!!!

Buster

My old boy Buster used to love jumping inthe air and doing 360's in the air, especially at the beach and Lara was like a mountain goat on the tall rocks, Jedda loved rolling around on her back...lots of great memories
