Oh yeah ... I don't know anyone named Kilmer and my husband doesn't either, but it's cool to know there is another Catfish running around Austin! I'd love to maybe hook up for a play date once Catty is strong and healed, so please do keep in touch! We live north Austin as well near 183 and McNeil, so we're not too far from you.
Thanks for the support and for dropping a line!

I have been gone for a few days and just wanted to check up on you and Catfish. I am soooo glad he's back home with you...I know that was a relief getting that over with. I know you will have many happy days ahead. Enjoy your baby...healing vibes and prayers from our house.

Thanks for checking back in with us. He came home on Monday, which I was sooo excited about, but this week has been so very stressful. He is in a lot of pain and it's tough to watch. I called the surgeon this morning to see if this is normal (having pain 7 days after amputation) and she said no. You can imagine that didn't make me feel much better. I'm planning to give him another week to see if he's getting better because he has had less pain as the days go by. It's still pretty weird and painful for him to lay down, but he seems to be getting better at it. The toughest part is that my sweet boxer can't really "box" anymore. We all know how much they use their hands, and now when I give him a toy he just kind of looks at it as I'm sure he's thinking "how can I get that?". I'm confident that once the pain is gone he'll figure out new ways to play and new things to do, but it's breaking my heart in the meantime. I know I have to stay strong for him, so I'm certainly doing my best. We get the biopsy results back on Monday so we'll know what we're facing and how to move forward. Please do keep him in your prayers/thoughts for a strong recovery...soon! :0)

Sorry to hear Catfish is having a tough recovery. I pray that with each new day Catfish will be closer to being pain free and back to his normal happy boxer self. Is he still on any type of pain medication?

The good thing about animals is they learn to adjust so well (better than humans I think.) And I agree with you that once the pain subsides he will figure out new ways to do certain things. My boxer girl Maddie had to have half of her right bottom jaw removed due to a tumor. I was so upset because Maddie is a "chewer" really loves to chew on things. I thought her chewing days were over since basically she only has a small piece of her bottom jaw left on one side but she thought otherwise. Not even two weeks post-op she was trying to chew on a very hard bone like nothing had ever happened (of course I had to stop her because it was still to early after the surgery.) But now she chews like she did before her surgery, it never slowed her down, she adjusted really well. Yes, some things have changed like when she drinks water it goes everywhere and I mean everywhere. And some things (like cheese) she has a hard time picking up off the floor but overall, she does really well.

I will continue to keep your baby in my prayers and sending positive thoughts for the biopsy.
