Why'd you name your boxer that?

Cute Story!

Originally, we fell in love with our girl at the impound. My 'other half' went to the animal hospital to get the adoption arranged and they said, "Hey-we have a male boxer here, too." I was called in to take a peek and was pretty much sunk! Later that afternoon I had a post-it note on my computer screen at work "Tim called. Dog names: Fritzi and Boris" HA! Sabatoge! Didn't take much to seal the deal! LOL! He had researched German names online to fit the breed. Fritzi is the nickname for Frederika and means peaceful ruler/queen. Boris, whom we will receive in two weeks, means proud fighter. Both fit the pups personality to a "T". Everyone who's seen them agrees!

Winifred

I know it's sounds old fashioned but I'm a bit that way, too. It did start out as Winnie the Pooh because everytime I picked her up she ... well you can guess.

I also like the meaning of Winifred - Friend of Peace, Blessed.

I am counting down the days till I bring her home.

Can't decide on name!

We maybe picking up a male puppy next week. I'm not sure what to name him. I wanted to name him, "Vito", but I'm not sure. I am a huge Godfather and Sopranos fan. I was going to give him his AKC name, "Vito, The Don of the Russum La Familia" Goofy, huh? Our female is, "Paris, The Heiress of Stonebrook" I am also a huge fan of Star Wars and the Washington Redskins and I was throwing around some names like, Dexter, Lando, Diesel, Anakin, etc. I just don't want to regret a name or name him something stupid that no one gets.

Lewis' name actually came to me pretty easily. A mechanic who worked in the same building as I did was observed to be a rather grumpy guy. He could be quite intimidating because of his size as well. But, in getting to know him, I realized that he was a nice guy, not nearly as "scary" as he looked. His last name is Lewis and I figured it would suit a boxer... Intimidating looks, but really just a softie. I then connected the name with the boxer, Lennox Lewis, and it was sealed. It suited him from day one. I gave my shih-tzu the name Oskar because his face reminded me of Oscar the grouch from Sesame Street... a pushed in face with hair sticking up all over it.

When we picked Zeus up at 13mos old, he was a brute, it was only fitting that he was given a name to suit his stature.

Apollo, mythlogically, was the son of Zeus, but in his bloodline, our Zeus is really his Apollo's uncle, so we wanted something that was close fitting to that.

I got stuck on Greek Mythology through my job, as I found myself naming networking components after the Greek characters, so it just kind of carried over to the doggies.

Sadie already had her name when we got her, but I have always called her SadieSue and she just wiggles everytime I say it. She is beautiful and sassy and her name Sadie fits her completely. :p:

Diogi

We named our new boxer after a K-9 dog that was shot and killed, as a tribute. As I am sure anyone can figure out, it is phoenetically sounded d-o-g.

I am a deputy and felt a large heartbreak to hear that a k-9 and his handler lost their lives to a lunatic. Our hearts go out to their families.

Naming Zoe

Zoe was a rescue from the people who lived behind us. Zoe was the name we came up with that she responded to almost immediately. We'd say her name and she'd look at us like, "Yes?" It was quite cute.
