We have never taught our dogs many tricks - but SuzyQ sits, stays, shakes - whatever hand you hold out she gives you that paw, lay down, get in your pillow bed (that is usually for crowd/riot control) that is about it. But she is trained to sit when you feed her until you tell her it is ok, same with going outdoors she must sit till we say it's ok (she knows these commands with hand signals only also). Since she has been an adult, our yard has not been fenced (she had a fenced in area when she was young) - she knows her boundaries (we live in the country and she has the run of approx. 1.5 acres) she won't chase a squirrel, dog, rabbit or anything else beyond where she is supposed to go. It's really funny when she chases our cat and he goes outside "her" area and she stops and just glares at him. We can walk across the street to the neighbors and she will sit in her yard and wait. When she walks on lead, she notices other dogs, or squirrels, but won't pull or lunge, I just tell her "never mind" and she just watches them. I had her in town with a large crowd of people a couple of weeks ago and she doesn't pay attention to other people, unless they come up and pet her. It is wonderful to have such a well trained girl to take with me and I can't take credit for her training, my hubby is very consistent and dedicated to training all our dogs like this - he has done a wonderful job.
