Getting stronger each day
Oh my gosh you guys...thanks for keeping him (and us) in your thoughts. My husband and I had a rough weekend with him only because it was very physically exhausing to lift him and hold him up for bathroom breaks. By Sunday, he was able to muster the strength to prop his head up on his own. We shed so many tears but would not let Jake see us cry. Monday, Jake was back at Davis for a complete workup on his health - bloodwork, joint taps, ultrasounds, x-rays, neuroligical testing...you name it. His liver is on the road to recovery but they are baffled as to why he can not stand up or walk. Surprisingly, they released him back to us since he will recover faster at home with all of the TLC. The TLC is working though...he had his first steps - solo - today without any help. Today is the first day that he is urinating on his own without our help holding him. His steps are shaky and he can go about 10 - 15 feet on his own. He is so determined and hates to have us help him. It's been one week since we last slept in our bed - we have been sleeping on the floor with him downstairs sinces he's too heavy to take up stairs - plus we have to monitor medication to him every 2 hours around the clock. This is good baby practice for us - we are expecting our first child in April. Of course, Jake will always be our first baby...we will keep you posted on his progress...PLEASE continue to send the prayers....THEY ARE WORKING! Thank you!
PS: Yesterday, the vet reduced Jake's prednisone down from 40 gm per day to 20 mg per day. This medication is so nasty - it is just killing his muscles. We are hoping he responds positively to this cut back!
