Getting stronger each day

Oh my gosh you guys...thanks for keeping him (and us) in your thoughts. My husband and I had a rough weekend with him only because it was very physically exhausing to lift him and hold him up for bathroom breaks. By Sunday, he was able to muster the strength to prop his head up on his own. We shed so many tears but would not let Jake see us cry. Monday, Jake was back at Davis for a complete workup on his health - bloodwork, joint taps, ultrasounds, x-rays, neuroligical testing...you name it. His liver is on the road to recovery but they are baffled as to why he can not stand up or walk. Surprisingly, they released him back to us since he will recover faster at home with all of the TLC. The TLC is working though...he had his first steps - solo - today without any help. Today is the first day that he is urinating on his own without our help holding him. His steps are shaky and he can go about 10 - 15 feet on his own. He is so determined and hates to have us help him. It's been one week since we last slept in our bed - we have been sleeping on the floor with him downstairs sinces he's too heavy to take up stairs - plus we have to monitor medication to him every 2 hours around the clock. This is good baby practice for us - we are expecting our first child in April. Of course, Jake will always be our first baby...we will keep you posted on his progress...PLEASE continue to send the prayers....THEY ARE WORKING! Thank you!

PS: Yesterday, the vet reduced Jake's prednisone down from 40 gm per day to 20 mg per day. This medication is so nasty - it is just killing his muscles. We are hoping he responds positively to this cut back!

Like everyone else, I've been checking this thread every day this week to see how Jake's weekend went with you all. Thanks so much for taking the time and energy to keep us updated - you must know that we've been thinking about Jake and your family a lot, and you must be able to feel those vibes!! :) I'm so happy to hear that Jake is home with you where he will get all that TLC that is the best healer of all. You are such good parents to him, helping him through his illness - you must be emotionally and physically exhausted, but I sense that you would do anything for him, just to see him well. He's making some strides, and that is great news to hear!! I continue to keep that mighty trooper, and his mom and dad in my prayers, and those vibes keep going out to you. Take care. Grunt sends boxer hugs and mooshy kisses, too :)

Good news to hear Jake is doing better!! Titan sends lots of boxer hugs and kisses Jake's way. Hopefully the TLC at home is enough to keep making Jake stronger. You're all in our thoughts and prayers. It's so terrible when someone's baby is sick, but to be so young is even worse--It takes all I have to get thru the work day to come home and see my baby. Hugs and kisses to Jake and healing vibes too.

I just can't even imagine the ordeal you are going through. My thoughts and prayers are with you, your husband, and Jake. Here I am worrying about treating a little scrape on Rommel and you're dealing with muscle loss and liver failure.
Congratulations on your news of a baby. Make sure you get your rest as well.
Please keep the updates coming and lots of healing vibes to Jake.

Progress Report...

...he's getting stonger each day! He was so determined to stand up on his own today and he did! He's going to the bathroom all on his own and can walk short distances. He gets winded pretty quickly, but each step is making him stronger. He has been sleeping thru the night and the vet has dropped back on some of his meds and all of his pain killers. He definately does not seem to mind. I get a very happy tail whenever I come home from work and he is slowly but surely gaining his lost weight back.

Jake goes for more bloodwork later this week to ensure all is well. He will then have more joint taps the first week in January. We will keep you posted on any updates. Your support out there has helped us get thru a very tough time. Bless you guys...
