what do they do when they crop?

Most likely not the country, as my crop vet is in Canada.

Sorry if I offended anyone, it was not my intention.

It would be tough to offend those of us who do choose to crop our dogs. We've probably heard every argument under the sun about how this is wrong. I can't speak for everyone, but I have developed "thick skin" when it comes to this issue. Cropping is a personal choice that everyone must make for themselves.

Hmmm....Do you have a reference for this? I know many breeders in Ontario who crop and have never heard that it is illegal, and I can't find anything in the Ontario Statutes or Consolidated Laws that address ear cropping.

ok sorry, i correct myself. it is NOT illegal, but youll be hardpressed to find a vet that will do it in Ontario. Because the vet. association in Ontario does not agree with it, and therefore if something happens, they will not support the vet who did it. In addition, the Ontario SPCA does not support ear cropping or tail docking. Most people in Ontario find themselves having to go to Quebec, Manitoba, New York or Detroit.

Thanks, that's entirely different but makes a lot more sense. It does seem that the Veterinary Associations in Canada are more in the pocket of the AR groups than the AVMA is here, sadly.

do you mean that only ear cropping is not supported, or both? our new pup has a docked tail, and i have never seen a boxer here that still had its tail . not just boxers, but other breeds who are meant to have docked tails seem to have no problem either. i must admit that cropped ears don't seem to be huge here, but then i definitely have not seen every boxer in ontario!! not even close, unfortunately :D.

as far as i know, only cropping is "frowned upon" as My vet does docking. But the Ontario SPCA doesnt condone cropping or docking.

That is funny considering the number of people who show cropped boxers in Ontario, not to mention the many dobermans. I personally know that many are getting them cropped in Ontario. The average vet anywhere doesn't crop, because it does take skill and talent. You wouldn't want just any doctor doing plastic surgery!
