I personally know that many are getting them cropped in Ontario. The average vet anywhere doesn't crop, because it does take skill and talent. You wouldn't want just any doctor doing plastic surgery!

I think this is more along the lines of the truth. Here in California we have tons of vets. More than our share. Some don't crop. Either they lack the training of they just don't want to. My own vet does not crop. But many many vets WILL crop. Most just are not that good at it. They leave smaller pit bull style ears. EEK! So we have a few select vets that are prized among the show community for doing an excellent job and taking good care of our prized pups while in their care.
