Good job!!!!! appicon

Well, if you've found something that is working for you, STICK WITH IT!!!!! If, however, you feel you can not continue because you're simply TOO hungry or your are not losing the weight anymore, let me know. I'll be happy to share my short story with you. It's a plan I discussed at length with my doctor.

I tell you one thing , tho'. Going from a size 16 to a size 9-10 should have increased my self image a BILLION times, but I still see a fat, ugly, lazy blob in the mirror when I look at myself. It's funny how we still see the person we WERE and not who we now truly are!

I am 150 lbs on a 5'7 frame now and FEEL so much better physically and mentally, but I would still like to go down to 135lbs, tho'....my hubby would probably kill me. He thinks I've lost the little bit of a** I had and he says he puts on all the pounds I lose

Probably because I live vicariously through his eating habits..ha! smashicon

Jenn, I am really happy for you, if this doesn't work for me I will call you for sure. I know what you mean , you loose weight and you still feel fat inside! and you still feel people look at you like your fat. Its hard to understand. Don't loose anymore weight girl! you must look great as is, stay healthy!

It is weird that our self-esteem is NOT actually tied to our weight. I bet those of us who have always been a little proportionately gifted ;) always thought if we could just lose the weight, all of our self-image problems would be solved. I don't think it happens though. I think we have to work on our self-esteem separately from our weight. We have to be happy with who we are no matter what we weigh. And then being skinny will really be awesome!

Totally right! Actually losing the weight is the easy part (wait, did I just say that?!), the self-esteem part takes YEARS to repair!

What really strikes me as "ironic" is the way PEOPLE's perceptions of me have changed. Colleen, you'll experience this too....

A....either they were my friend and are still my friend...

B.....They wanted NOTHING to do with me and now, all of the sudden, chit chat, flirt, etc (mostly guys, some women)....

C....FAMILY...it's amazing how these people govern our self esteem. My husband always thought I was beautiful, any way I am. He's actually the only person who thinks I"ve lost too much weight

My mother...you know this type...they THINK they're helping you or giving you compliments, but in reality every time they open their mouths they are criticizing you. You then realize you can not possibly EVER live up to their expectations and that they, in their own right, are ignorant of the fact that they are bringing you down emotionally. Example...saying thins like, "You are sooooo beautiful, just 10 more lbs!"

My father.....HE's always been a playboy...had lots of women (all skinny). I remember growing up and going to visit him (parents have been divorced since I was born) and he'd criticise my clothes, my hair, and tell me not to eat so much. Today, whether due to maturity on his part or simply because I am an thinner, happier, healthier adult now, with MUCH more confidence, he is VERY proud of me. I don't hold any of this against him, he doesn't know any better because he is too shallow to see the beauty in people who are not his idea of a perfect weight. That doesn't make him a bad person, just a little stupid and sad.

My sister.....she's mixed...half black...half white. She is 5'7 and 165lbs. She is GORGEOUS. All muscles! She's a ROCK! A butt that won't stop, extrememely muscular thighs from playing Volleyball, and size DD cups (SHE'S 17!!!!!). Best way to descrbe her is like a young version of Marriah Carrey. In her great way of bringing you down, my mother has managed to convince my sister that she too, is fat. Yet she wonders why my sister has self esteem problems...hmmmmm. I keep working on my sister. Telling her she's gorgeous, so does my husband, but she feels we only say that because we have to because we're family. Because of her ethnicity she is ousted at school by various children (black, or white). I tell her all this will pass when she graduates and she'll realize how all these things don't matter. She, ofcourse, can't wait to gratduate and wants to move in with me and hubby while attending UT Arlington  GREAT!

My sister in law. The heaviest and largest person in the family. She is 5'10 and must weigh about 350+lbs. she has started my diet plan and has lost 40+lbs so far. Good job!!!appicon Her story? A mother that only cooked fatty, lardy, unhealthy food and never taught her how to be healthy. After losing her first 100 lbs, we are going shopping to celebrate!

So...moral of this LONG drawn-out story.....it is the people in our lives that influence the way we look and feel. Whether we want to admit it or not. I had to seperate myself from my unhealthy friends and the negative friends/family and surround myself with upbeat "go getters". I found the people closest to me, to be the most critical when it came to my diet. They'd say, GO GIRL, you can do it, in one breath and then offer me a piece of cake in the next (huh?). They mean well, but they must also be trained to know that you are serious when you say, not that you are DIETING (I hate that word), but that you are making a LIFESTYLE CHANGE and focusing on increasing your HEALTH!

Ok....too much rambling....I just want to share the things I've encountered so that when you all encounter them, you're armed and ready. Think back on the people you work with, live with, your family, your friends. Who's encouraging you and who's really bringing you down? This is YOUR health we're talking about. Chose to change your eating habits and health, take the steps to change it, and then GO FOR IT! Once you set your mind to it, it WILL happen!

Jenn, I know what you mean, you loose weight and everybody says, oh wow you sure look good!, and you have more friends, this whole thin thing makes me sick. You are still the person you were before you lost the weight. It would be nice if someone could come up to you after you loose the weight and say wow, you sure must feel better now and you must feel proud of yourself for doing this for you! When I look at an overweight person I never think UGH, I feel for that person, I know how hard it is to loose and how that person must feel.

I was walking with my girlfriend and her husband in the mall one day (he is a real jerk) and I wasn't overweight at the time, this large woman walked by us and he says" Look at the size of her! she should get a gun a shoot herself" what an a**hole!

My hubby loves me any which way but he is always concerned about my health. Anyways thats enough for now. We are doing this for us!! Take Care

One more thing my brother in laws wife who was a little over weight had surgery etc now looks like an old woman, thin and suken cheeks due to a lot of meds and not feeling up to par (stomach surgery) hes always telling her, don't you gain any weight now, I like you thin. He makes me sick! MEN, some don't deserve to have a woman

I know what you mean, girlfriend! I have a coworker who's got a real good heart and is cute as can be (a guy). I tell him all the time, "I think you're the sweetest guy until you open that big mouth of yours!" He left his first wife because she gained too much weight. He constantly threatens his second wife about leaving her if she gains anymore weight (she's 5-7 and weighs 135lbs!!!) and he told me the other day (this is no joke) that, " And she knows I'm serious because her a** is always on a diet!".

I think these type of people have self esteem issues they've never dealt with. Ofcourse, he probably just has a real small "you know what!"  (Hey, I can stereotype too!) :D

Good luck girl!!!! Since I'm not dieting, I'll weigh in my sister-in-law's results.

She has now dropped 55 lbs and is still going. She had her bloodwork done last week and her Triglicerides have dropped 92 points!!!! WOOT WOOT appicon

Congrats to you!! Walking is a great thing for anyone to take up. I used to run until I was 19 and found out I had a heart disease....It wasn't until May 2002 that my doc said "NO RESTRICTIONS" I was never so excited to hear those words...I only walk with kiki and dexter, and would love to have a walk partner. My sis says tis too cold- -but I just bought some ear muffs for the wind and love it even more!! Good luck and keep up the chin!!!
