Yesterday was gray, rainy and cold. The dogs rang the bell to go out and were outside for about 10 minutes, doing business and basically running around (trying to keep warm I presume).
Susie rang the cowbell to come back in and I went to the door and opened it. She and Rider came running in as fast as can be but Maggie was not in sight. I called for Maggie to come (often, she will only come in after being called). Again, no Maggie. My heart leapt into my throat.
I was in my jammies and househoes, not really dressed for outdoors but I went out and looked all over for Maggie, calling for her to come. She was not in the yard at all. I checked all the fencing to see if there was a hole where they may have dug an escape route (unlike them). I know Maggie knows that she can scale the chain link fence if she wants, but she's never tried.
I got really scared and decided to go back inside, get a coat and better shoes on and go looking for her around the neighborhood. She couldn't have been far as they'd not been outside very long.
As I approached the door, there were all THREE dogs, Maggie, Susie and Rider, looking at my thru the storm door like I had lost my mind. Whew!! I was never to glad to see Maggie in my life!
I still don't know how she slipped by me when Susie and Rider came into the house but she must have done so and I didn't see her come in at all.
Thinking your dog is out, running loose is one of the most awful thoughts in the world and just sickened me. I was so afraid I'd lost her and she'd get lost somewhere or get picked up by AC or someone not so nice. She didn't have on her ID collar at the time so I was doubly concerned since there would be no way to contact me if someone nice did find her and take her in and try and find her owner.
Thank goodness she's such a good dog. The thought of losing her was too much for me to bear. I just broke down and cried and hugged all 3 of them until they wouldn't let me hug them anymore.
I hate scary moments like that!!
