I just read this thread and boy do I know how you feel. My female now 3yrs old went in to be spayed and they found her heart murmer had risen from level 1/2 to 5/5.5 and 6 is the worst. We went to the cardiologist and had the same color doppler test you are having done. Our girl was 6months old and she was not sedated for the test we DH and I and another nurse held her on the table talking to her and she was fine through it. She didn't move around just laid calmly as we talked to her. The cardiologist was great explained everything in detail. He told us her condition was Sub-Aortic Stenosis (narrowing of artery leading into the bottom of the heart). This would eventually cause enlarging of one side of her heart and could end in either Congestive Heart Failure or Sudden Death. Her prognosis was that at her level of disease she would live approx. 4yrs. She was put on Altenolol (Blood pressure meds) once a day and he only restricted us from promoting activity like don't play ball for more than 10/15 min. at a time and no long walks just short around the block slow walks. He said let her control her own play in the yard and house and live a happy life. Quality is better than quanity most of the time. About 3 months ago over a weekend she had an episode just as you explained Asia's. She was so weak and didn't want to eat etc. We went to our vet and he consulted the Cardio vet, did blood work, Ekg's etc. She was starting to go into Congestive Heart Failure. We also had no warning. She just woke up Sat morning and starting the symptoms. She is now on 4 meds 2x a day and seems to be much better. She is not back to her normal crazy hyper self but I don't think now that will ever happen. She is however, happy, comfortable and still shows spurts of play and independence in demanding attention sometimes. Her big brother is at a loss because he really wants to play with her but knows he can't. He is such a love bug he will kiss her face whan she is resting etc. She goes today for another EKG to make sure the meds are still working to stop the VPC's etc. She had bloodwork last week to check for Kidney function and that actually went well. Vet said the numbers went down a bit and as long as the meds are not effecting the kidney function she will now stay on them. We'll know better after the EKG today. I have been preparing myself for her end since whe got the diagnosis 2 1/2 years ago. I like you was devasted. I have to say I know some might not agree but I think I would rather her go when the time comes by sudden death. I just don't know if I could watch her suffer and make a decision to let her go. For know we just love her and spoil her even more than before. My DH gets jealous and says he thinks the world revolves around the Queen Marine. But I catch him loving her just as much as me and my two sons (11 & 15yrs). I think what helps me is knowing that at least my baby will have had a wonderful life filled with love and spoiling unlike alot of the furbabies I see come through the rescue I volunteer with. In a way her sick heart made mine bigger. We ended up adopting through rescue because of all the furkids out there that don't have the great spoiled life she does. Her brother Caspian now has the life a royalty and I'm sure that after she passes I will adopt another to give them the love they deserve. Good Luck and just enjoy and love her as long as you have her.

Angie K, I am so sorry to hear about your little girl! :( I do hope that she gets to feeling better! We will be thinking about you guys!

Soooo ... two weeks later and we finally get in to see the 'special' Dr. I haven't stopped smiling since, no joke! This is a huge relief off of my shoulders! So, like you, Angie K, we all had to hold her down and she layed there very calmly. The Doctor gave a few huffs and 'hmms', but after thirty minutes of checking her heart out (both sides took like 30 minutes), he said there is not a thing wrong with her that he can see! fiestaicon

I feel silly for being so upset over this but the thought of losing her over something I never in my life thought I'd have to deal with scared me half to death! Plus, with all the other things going on (some I didn't even mention here because it's no fun to talk about), I think I just felt overwhelmed!

Although he says at this point in time there is nothing wrong, that doesn't mean that down the road, she'll be okay. He said because the EKG was abnormal and the X Rays showed an enlarged heart, he is confused on what it could be. Those two tests were done after she fainted, I don't know if that could alter the results? He measured the results of the dopplar and said he didn't see that her heart was enlarged at all.

After he examined all her results, we asked if we should take her case to Texas A&M (he graduated from there anyhow) to run some more tests and he told me that if he had seen something alarming on the results, he would tell us to go there, but he didn't, and didn't see a need in going to A&M ...

Soo, although we are not 120% out of the woods, we know that the blood is flowing through her heart just fine. He reccomended that we get an EKG done once every six months to make sure everything is okay. In his words "she is a happy, healthy, sweet dog"! She was really sweet to him - she kept licking his face ... I think at first he was taken aback but he warmed up to her and began enjoying her little wiggle butt!

He is sending the test results to our normal Doctor - I found out her name but I don't know that I will be able to spell it right - Mandujshi - and I am going to make an appointment to go speak with her and go over the results, and compare them to the tests she has already had over the last two weeks!

Sooo, I will update once again after I talk to our normal Doctor to let you guys know that she is clearing Asia for a clean bill of health as well ... I am confused as to why her X Rays showed an enlarged heart, her EKG's showed an arrythmia, and her Dopplar Echo showed everything about her heart is normal?! Well, we should soon find out ... but the news we have now is wonderful, so I am hoping that Doctor Mandujshi will agree that she is a healthy pup!

Thank you guys so much for the well wishes and good vibes coming our way ... seeing 17 pages full of people who care so much about Asia, and about us, but have never met us, is truly heartwarming! I think we are going to go take a nap now (we found some water by the vet's clinic earlier and Asia decided she needed to take a dip, so we were out there for a bit)! But, once again, we thank you all from the bottom of our hearts! And, of course Asia is sending some more of her good ol' boxer lovin' (kisses & wiggles & slobber & all) ... lovicon

((Like I said earlier, I will update after I talk to our normal Doctor to let you guys know that everything really is okay, and nothing in her test today was overlooked))

Haley--this is wonderful news! Don't feel silly about being so upset, I think most of us would have felt the same way, given what you were told at the beginning. The info about the enlarged heart is odd, especially since all looked OK on the doppler. Is Asia's heart still enlarged?

How will you celebrate? Does Asia get her favorite yummy or a new toy???

I'm so happy!!!

YEA!!! That is great!! I have been waiting all morning to hear back on what the results were. I am sure you are relieved to say the least. I guess all those prayers and thoughts worked. Never underestimate the people here on BW. I love every boxer, even if I have never met them. I know they all are as sweet as mine. I am so happy and glad for you. Now you take a sigh of relief and enjoy Asia as much as you can. Let her play, if she is allowed again.
