Okay, now $43.87 doesn't sound like a heck of a lot of money for 319 cigarettes, how does that meter work? Do you enter in how much you pay per pack in the beginning and tell how much you smoke a day? Inquiring minds want to know

That is exactly what you do, and silly me entered 6.75 per package, then found out the next day that they are actually 8.12 per pkg!!

Right now, my quit meter is doing a countdown to how many more smokes I have until Quit Day, and how much it is going to cost me until then!! Such a waste of $$$$ :(

Here is the link to your very own quit meter Aimee...

319 cigs is nearly 16 packs and I was paying about $2.75 a pack so that is pretty close....you do just program the date you quit, the number of cigs a day you were smoking and the price you were paying and calculates the rest for you..it is a wonderful motivator.

That's about the same price here, wow, I never thought of 319 cigs only being nearly 16 packs. It sounds like so much more! The quit meter sounds very motivating, thank you. Off to download :) Hopefully it will keep track of both hubby and me. I've bet him he will fall off the wagon first, I'm hoping our competitiveness will keep us both from failing

Do you feel better in the morning as Amiee asked? Have you noticed any positive changes in the way you feel?

Keep trying Jenn!! Each day is a new day, and you will find something to help you thru that 3rd day and then before you know it it's the 5th day and then you will be up to almost a month.

Well, yesterday I smoked exactly one cigarette, and was mad at myself the whole time.. Considering that last time I slipped I went crazy and smoked a WHOLE pack in one night, I consider this a victory!! I am also being stricken by the PMS monster, so I think I am doing all right!! I am going to stop by the drug store tonight and get some jigsaw puzzles to entertain me.. I am sucking on "Freeze Pops" at night as well, they do help!! Just gonna keep on quitting!! One second at a time...

I think that is fantastic!! It is a HUGE step since the last time you had a slight "fall" Taking it one second at a time is great, and if you fail, then do as you are doing and restart again. One day that one smoke is going to taste horrid

I have according to my quit meter 1 week, 11 hours, 38 minutes, 1 second left to "Freedom" I am drinking TONS of water, I have figured out by doing the association to environment step, that most of my smokes were habit, not out of need. I find now I am questioning myself each time I want a smoke, and quite frankly by the time I have my answer, I don't want it anymore. I "think" I am almost ready to begin, stocking up on gum and candies for the onset. My biggest fear is weight gain, so I will be keeping carrots and celery on hand, and increase my intake of water. If nothing else, due to the water consumption I will be so busy in the bathroom I won't be able to smoke. My e-message from Health Canada today states once one has made it past the 3 to 5 day mark the body is cleansed, after that the urges are habit moreso than need. Hmmm....
So, my journey begins this week with some serious prep for June 10th, wish me luck.......

Okay gang - here's some additional motivation to keep you moving towards your goal: I have spent the last 4 days in the ICU of a hospital with my Mom, who went into congestive heart failure / respiritory failure on Tuesday morning. She wasn't expected to survive until Wednesday (thankfully she did, and is getting better each day :D ). According to her pulmonologist, smoking was the single biggest contributor to, not only this episode where we thought she was dying, but to several other subtle changes in her health that we have failed to notice. She smoked for 30 + years and quit about 12 years ago, both the pulmonologist and cardiologist agreed that had she not quit then, there is virtually no way that she would have survived this episode. Thankfully, it looks like we will have her with us for a while longer, she will have to have alot of treatment and make alot of changes, but she will be here and not in the ground.

I know that I justified smoking, and took the risks for myself - I never took into account how devastating it would be for the people that love me to see me unconcious having a machine breathing for me, having hoses, tubes and IVs in every conceivable place, and not knowing whether I would live or die.

This is not a lecture, but please, think about how hard that would be on your kids, spouses and friends to love you and see you like that. It shook me, that's for sure. I am a tried and true, dyed in the wool Mama's Boy and proud of it.

:)

Oh, remember that brother that I mentioned a few posts back that thought I wouldn't make it as a non smoker? He threw his away on Tuesday night. :)

Cub,
I am so sorry to hear that your Mom is sick. I am glad she'll be OK. Congestive heart failure is what my husband was diagnosed with recently and the doctor told him point blank..."make your choice...quit smoking or die!" Not to tough of a decision, huh?? We chose for him to live and so far are both doing pretty good without the damned things. I applaud your brother's decision to join our very special group..tell 'im to get him a "quit meter" and come on!!! ;) Thanks for sharing your "re-enforcement" with us...I know it had to be a bad bad week for you. I will keep all of you in my thoughts and prayers. Deb

Well the countdown is getting down to the wire for me. According to my quit meter I have

3 days, 1 hour, 10 minutes, 59 seconds left to smoke.

Based on my recorded daily cig count I have

45 cigs remaining at a cost of 12.15 cents.

LOL tomorrow is a birthday BBQ for my nephew so that means the day with my family! I will most likely acheive my 45 cigs left by days end tomorrow

Cub I am sorry about your mom, and we are mustering up tons of healing vibes for her here in Ontario. I guess I just never thought of anyone else but myself when I justified my smoking.

Wish me luck, Monday is the Day!
