Me too. I haven't done terribly well either. In a class I took it said the average person quits multiple times before being successful although that was no consolation to me. Good job Deb, keep up the good work. I heard they are formulating a quit smoking pill--don't know the ins and outs but wish there was an easier way :(

That is amazing Debbie, when you think about it that is a lot of smokes. Do you still have a craving after 2 months? I am just worried that I will continue to crave them? Or is it really all mental like Jenn says?

Deb your a great Motivator, ever thought of becoming a speaker:) I have started my running again with Kiki by my side like a bucking bronco, but thats a whole nother topic-- I am so out of breath and know how much better I will feel if I quit!!

Aimee how you doing?
Jenn you will get there....as will I!!!!

I think that's true. I quit several times before I finally quit!

Alygator--I was afraid I would crave cigarettes, too, but once I finally quit, I haven't craved a smoke since. And it's been 22 years!!

Alright Debbie appicon Hang in there. I've always thought of myself as a social smoker. I can go all day without one. In the evening I would sit on the porch and smoke away for hours. Lacey loved being outside with me. I noticed I was smoking more and more lately. Just a couple of months ago my Aunt, also very good friend, found out she had a tumor growing on her lower right lung. She had been sick off and on for a while with colds and losing weight. I quit July 3rd. I watched my Aunt dying. Not being able to breath. Not being able to get up and do things. She would cry and then that would mess up her breathing. She did not want to die. She passed away July 19th with her children by her side. I saw her just hours before she passed. She even said hi to me. It was horrible seeing her like she was. She was only 60 years old.
Just remember there is always something else you can be doing besides holding and smoking a cigerette.

Oh Barb,
I am so sorry to hear about your aunt. How devastating. I know you all must miss her terribly. How sad..find out your are sick and have only two months to live. No more for me, girl. Good Luck with your quitting....we can do it..we HAVE to do it. Hollar if I can help any, OK? Deb

Barb--I'm so sorry about your aunt. It is horrible to watch someone die like that, when it could have been prevented. My father died of lung cancer, too, and he had been a life long smoker.

My thoughts and prayers go out for you and your family.

ljnash: How old was your Father? My dad too is a chain smoker!!
I worry about him. My Father in law is also a chain smoker and has a horrible cough. His Father died of lung cancer in 1992. It's such a hard reality to those of us that smoke.

Alygator, my dad was 71 when he died. He was diagnosed in Sept. 1984 and had chemo, etc., but they couldn't do any more for him. He died in March (1985). If they could have done surgery, he might have survived, but his heart was in such bad shape, they didn't think he would survive the surgery. (Heart disease due to smoking, too).

Thanks for the kind words ladies.
My husband is a heavy smoker too. He's only 33. He said that if I quit that he would try and quit. We'll see. He lost his father to lung/brain cancer almost 4 years ago. I lost a grandmother to emphysema (she was my Aunts mother). My gramma was only 70. My Aunt that just passed had emphysema too. She only had a breathing capacity of 40%. There was no way they could operate to remove her tumor because of the other lung being damaged. My mother had a scare a while back. They found spots on her lung. She was shook up bad. Then she found out that it was some type of infection. She still smokes. She's a heavy smoker too. Now she's lost a mother and sister. I can only hope that she would quit. She's very stubborn. She seems to think nothing will happen to her, because my grandpa still smokes and is alive at 80. Isn't that a crazy way to think.
One great thing has come out of all this. My son was smoking and has stopped. I think because of me quitting. Plus his girlfriend lost her mother a year ago last April to lung cancer. She and I were the same age. I'm 39.
