sorry i wasn't online since 4:00 yesterday. we had training class again last night and when we got home we went to grab a bite to eat. by the time we came home it was after 10pm and i was wiped out from the heat. but please know that i was thinking about you. and hubby was asking about you, too.
i'm glad to hear that ms josi isn't making any trips over to the grass!!!! hopefully her bout with liquid poo is under control.
staci...so glad you talked to oncologist. she sounds like a great person! and glad to hear that she will be around for you while your local vet is away at the family reunion. i'm sure it put your mind at ease knowing that you have somewhere to turn in an urgent situation. i probably would have started to cry if my told me he was going to be away, too. don't feel bad. i'm sure he understood.
so i'm back online for the day today. hope to see solid poo updates soon :)

I came home to find Josi paws up in the air snoring away on her back on the bed. We went outside and she went into the grass and assumed the stance...well it wasn't an explosion of liquid poo w/ blood like yesterday, but it was still liquidy w/ no blood and looked to be the color of the pro-pectin paste. It didn't seem to bother her like yesterday though and she came right in and gobbled down somemore rice and chicken. It did actually look rather mucousy today almost a sac around the liquid this time which is what the doctors kept asking me yesterday, but I couldn't really answer it yesterday. The both said if it appears mucousy then she most likely has a bout of colitis that the Metapozine? can take care of. But I just don't know how long I should give the first medicine to work before going with another one. Butlersmom~do you know how long it took to get results from the pro pectin? I guess what I will do is if she still has a runny one by the end of the day before 5, I will call the oncologist and have her call in a script to our pharmacy so I can pick it up in the morning. This way she will have had 5-6 doses of the paste by then and if she is still runny we can be ready to go with the other in the morning.

Other than that...she is doing GREAT:) All her swelling is completely gone from three paws and the only remnants left on the front right paw is some scabbing underneath from the worst oozing. Her head has also gone down and all that is left is hardened ooze which I don't want to mess with, it should hopefully fall off when ready. Her bruising on her belly also seems to be diminishing in color as well and she is back to eating and drinking like a normal girl, instead of getting breakfast, lunch, and dinner in bed. Warrior Princess is once again living up to her name and boy am I ever so proud of her and happy to have more quality time:)

Glad to hear your girl is better. I agree that if her poo is not more formed by the end of the day you should give the doctor a call. He/she may tell you it will take a little more time, but at least you'll have a professional opinion. The Pro Pectin is really good, but since her tummy was in such foul shape, you may need something else. I've never heard of the other med you mentioned, but I have used metachlopramide. It's good, too.

I'm leaving in about 15 minutes for SC and will be on the road at least 2 1/2 hours. By the time I get home and get everything unloaded (Butler pottied and settled) I will have to leave for an appointment. I'll check back in later this evening.

Until then, I'm sending feel good vibes to the Warrior Princess.

Yep...that is what it is metachlopramide (I really messed that one up). She said that if it is colitis then that med should do the trick. She actually just went outside again and had another blow out so we maybe on the path to that one, but we shall see when the doctor calls me back.

good girl josi...snoozing like a real champ.
was it metronidazole? we've used that for dakota's colitis ... it works well, too.
we've also used sulfasalazine (azulfidine) for him. sometimes we would have to use the two in combination.
all three of our babies have been on metronidazole for diarhea at one time or another, too.
metachlopramide (reglan)....we've had experience with that, too. Zuki takes that when her belly isn't feeling good but she vomits...she doesn't get diarhea....i thought the reglan was just for vomitting....but, hey....maybe it works for both.
how bad is it that i know the names of these drugs and what we've used them for???? i guess having "special needs" dogs for the last 14 years has given us the opportunity to learn these things.
it's not like we are always looking for drugs to give our babies. in fact, we don't like to use medication too much but when all the natural remedies are exhausted...we turn to the drugs to bring them comfort somehow.
i'm so glad to hear her swelling is going down. and that her bruising is subsiding. she continues to amaze! i just can't find words to tell you how amazing ms josi is.
hugs, as usual.
until later.............

Ms Josi, you are such an inspiration. I find myself checking in multiple times a day with my fingers and toes crossed that you are still fighting though this battle and I am amazed at the way you continue to persevere. It must be all the love that is being heaped on to you, both at home and by your extended family here.

The doctor called in a prescription of metronidazole (500mg) into our hospital pharmacy, it is a generic for flagyl. When I got home with it, I knew something was wrong b/c Brian looked sad and Josi was lying on the kitchen floor. He said when he came home she was sleeping on the couch which is adorable b/c it was the only no-no she had in this house, but once she became sick back in Dec. that rule went out the door and she has taken full advantage of it. Anyhow he said she was breathing a little heavy and her gums were pale pink. She went outside to pee and followed him in, but had no energy to wait for the chicken to cook. She did eat her dinner eventually of rice and chicken breast, but since she has been curled up under the blankets in the bed resting with pale gums. She did take the first pill and she has since drank water, but is now refusing any food. Unfortunately I think she is experiencing another bleed:( While I hope her body is just exhausted from what is going on with her stomach, these symptoms are all too common for us. We are rubbing and kissing away on her and she seems very comfortable and peaceful. We will just sit vigil and see how the evening progresses...Keep us in your thoughts and prayers and I will do my best to keep you all posted.
