Any ideas? We finally decided to wake Josi up and get her outside for only her second pee of the day. Well when we tried to get her up, we noticed that her front right paw is very swollen from the heel pad to the larger pad in before her toes. It seems like maybe it could be a bite although I don't know from where, but I am very concerned that this could be related to her condition. Does anyone know if internal bleeding could cause such a thing? Her other paws seem fine right now and I was able to get two benedryls in her but I'm worried. She has still been throw-up free and continuing to drink water and pedialyte. I am a little paniced! Why her she doesn't deserve this:(

I wish I had an answer for you Staci but I don't :( Do you have a 24 hour number for your vet or someone in the veterinary field you could ask? Perhaps the guy that took care of her while you were away for your wedding, he was a vet student then right? I know where you are coming from about the not deserving it part, we find out next week how bad Chance's cancer is, so while we have been praying and pulling for Josi all along now I am also praying double time, although I was hoping I would never have to. Yours and Josi's strength gives me the hope that no matter how bad the news we get is after following your story I have hope that I will be able to get through it with half the strength you have shown through out your ordeal. We hope your next update is at the very least a little better. Until then we will continue to pray and hope that she will pull through yet again and live up to her "Warrior Princess" title she has been so rightfully given. Give her a gentle hug and kiss from Chance and myself, you guys are always in our thoughts and prayers, especially you and Brian :)

Hi Staci.
just had to pop online to see how miss josi is doing and saw your post about her foot being swollen.
i do not want to scare you but i do have to be honest with you since you asked whether or not it could be related to her condition, okay???
toward the end of Dakota's time here on earth with us...his back ankles would become swollen. at first it was just one of the rear ankles...then it was both. the vet said it was edema due to blood and/or fluids pooling in the extremities. he said gravitiy could help move the blood/fluid to the legs since the body cannot reabsorb the blood/fluid fast enough.
I don't like to have to tell you this but i have been honest with you whenever i could be.........so i think you should know that Dakota's last day...both of his ankles were swollen. not so swollen that they were twice the size of what they should be. but definately swollen so that there was no definition in the 'shape' of the ankle/leg. i'm trying to find the right words so i can tell you what his paws felt or looked like....the best way i can describe it is that it was almost as if there were water balloons under the skin. kind of jiggley....like jello. if that makes any sense.
that being said, it could be something totally different for miss josi and i most certainly hope that it is something else in her case. i would probably call the vet and ask if she should be seen or if there is anything they can do for her to help make her fight this bleed a litlte harder.
i'm sorry to share what i know, in this particular case, because i am concerned about what the swelling could be. i don't want it to be what it was for Dakota.......but i did have to share with you how Dakota's feet used to swell, since you asked if anyone knew if it could be related to josi's condition. i hope i didn't panic you or scare you. it could be something totally different for josi
we're stilling praying for you.....and brian.....and most of all josi.
zuki, liam and moby are crossing all paws and sending lots of wiggles and hugs your way.
i'll be online for a while...........i'll keep checking back to see if there are any updates until i go to bed.
hugs to you! hang in there!

Caroline,
Your honesty is so appreciated and while I didn't want to hear it, I have been researching online and edema is what I found. I am devasted to think that my Warrior Princess's fight might be coming to an end. As much as we think we are prepared..we are not. I have her feet elevated right now, don't know if that will help, but didn't think it could hurt? She is sleeping peacefully and I am watching her every breathe. We could take her to the emergency hospital, but I know that they will put her back in ICU where we can't be with her and I can't bear to leave her for a minute especially if her days or hours are coming closer to an end. I have prayed many of nights that when it is her time that she would go peacfully in her sleep and I still pray for that. I have my local vets cell phone number and plan to call him first thing in the morning since I can't call at 11:15 at night and maybe he can come by the house. Do you remember the vet's telling you if you can doing anything to help the swelling? I am truly at a loss for words and feel myself getting more depressed by the minute. I am trying to be so strong for her and I just can't help myself. Thank you so much for posting and telling me the truth and keeping on to continue to check. I will keep updating...

Oh, Staci, you don't know how sorry I am to hear that our Warrior Princess's condition seems to be getting worse. No matter how prepared you think you are, you're always taken by surprise when things happen. I will say a prayer for Miss Josi now, and each time I awake during the night. Give your girl a kiss from me, and tell her that I've also said a prayer and asked my girl Scarlett to be waiting on her when she's ready to cross the bridge. My prayer is that she will pull through yet another bad episode and you will be blessed with more time.

Hugs, and tears.....
