Just got home from our 10:30 visit. Josi seemed a little more alert than earlier:) They said they had recently had her out so maybe that is why. Brian noticed immediately that her heart monitor was gone and questioned why and they said the doctor ordered it to be removed this evening. I asked why and the nurse said b/c he felt her heart had stablized which appears like good news to me, but I still don't understand why they wouldn't leave it as a precautionary measure. I was disappointed to hear that the surgeon didn't lower any of her pain meds when he told me this morning that is what he wanted to do so she could get home and recupirate. Ofcourse he also didn't call me this evening when I left a message for him and he is now off for the holidays. Hopefully Josi will be transferred back to the internal medicine doctor and he will start to lower the meds in the morning. They did allow us to try to feed her my chicken and rice, but she wanted nothing to do with it still. She did take a tiny bit of water from a syringe for me so that made me feel better. Again I just want the pain meds lowered and hope that she does ok and I feel like her nausea will subside and she will regain strength to come home. We are scheduled for a visit at noon tomorrow and should hear from a dr. in the morning. As always I will keep you all posted and continue to keep her in your thoughts...the boxerworld vibes seem to be working...

I can only imagine how hard this is for you. I'm still praying and pulling for Josi. Maybe the pain meds are upsetting her tummy and that's why she doesn't want to eat. Will be waiting for an update. ((hugs))

good morning...just got off the phone with her tech and waiting for the new doctor to call. She said that Josi had a pretty good night with a few bouts of vocalization though. I wish I could have them describe to me what exactly she is doing because a healthy Josi is a vocal Josi - although I am sure they know what to listen for, I know my dog best and she will cry, moan, and whine just to have her belly rubbed. I am really hoping for a reduction in pain meds to see how she responds and I agree with you Austin's mom that is why she won't eat. Actually I am sure she won't eat there at all, so the sooner I can bring her home if she is willing the better. I am going to hard boil an egg and bring some more boiled chicken for her today in case she is interested, but truthfully she is so doped up that she cant even open her mouth. I will post again...

She may not eat being away from home. Last Friday when Aus stayed overnight at the vet he didn't eat, drink, pee or poop. And I knew he wouldn't and told them that upfront. Hopefully Josi is feeling better and looking for that belly rub!

I am thinking of Josi - came right here this morning before I even checked my emails!! It sounds like she's making progress. I understand your concern about her being weaned off her pain meds, and agree that they might be contributing to her lack of appetite. Also, about the heart monitor being removed. But I imagine you'll be getting all those answers when you see the doctor. My heart goes out to you and your DH - this must be so very hard on the both of you, but your love for Josi will carry you through.

Josi, you hang in there, baby girl!! Lots of vibes comin' at ya'!!! lovicon

I was going to say the same thing about the pain meds making her sick. Hopefully the vet will start to taper those off soon. Sending good thoughts to you and Josie.
