So the surgeon just called...Josi fought through the night and he said they did not need to call him for anymore pain med orders. She is currently just on a lidocaine drip, which I don't know if it is strong or not (any knowledge of this would be greatly appreciated). I would have to think that being off the moraphine, ace, etc. has to be an improvement. He said her heart is doing good and the incision looks well. Now for the not so good news...after the neurologist examing her this morning, they now think that she had a FCE yesterday evening before we got there which caused her tremendous pain. This is a spinal cord stroke that has caused Josi to have rear leg weakness. They said with assistance getting up she can stand/walk, but she is very weak. He said that generally the pain lasts up to 24 hours so it may not be over yet, but generally patients with an FCE can fully recover from recuperation and rehab. Their treatment mode right now is to continue to manage the pain and when they can get her off the drip to send her home to recover. My poor baby does not seem to catch any breaks, but she is still fighting-so I will too. Continue to pray and give her the strength she needs to come home:)

Oh Staci, I feel so terrible that you are going through this so close to the holidays, which are stressful to begin with. I am praying really hard for Josi, that she comes home and gets back to her old-self again. Again, your family and Josi are in my thoughts and prayers.

Going to visit her at 6 -I will post when I get back. We did see her at 11:30 and she was doing better from last night, but she was still on alot of pain meds. She was alert and new who we were, but she just wanted to rest. I had boiled some chicken for her, but she wanted nothing to do with it. Keep prayering we can wean her off the pain meds and bring her home.

Gentle hugs to Josi when you go to see her. Good to hear that she is doing better - sounds like she had a rough night, poor baby girl. Fingers and paws crossed here that she comes off her pain meds soon and can go home with you.

Got to see her and she was doing about the same as this morning resting comfortably. She popped her head up when we first got there and then laid it back down. She is so spaced out that she looks like she is in another world. I had hoped that they would have started to wean the meds by tonight, but the ICU nurse said all has stayed the same and they were awaiting her doctor to get out of surgery and make his nightly rounds. I left him a voicemail to call me before he leaves to discuss this. They keep telling me that they get her up to go pee with a sling, but I just don't know how that is possible in her zombie state. she is still not eating, but they said that should be expected on the meds but she is going to have to soon I would think. we did make an appt. to go back again at 10 tonight, but I'm really hoping to hear from the doctor before then. we did run into the internal medicine doctor who discussed our options the night of surgery and we requested that he take over her case tomorrow since the surgeon is going on vacation and we are familiar with him. I am still trying to hang in there, unfortunately not doing a very good job of it, but I promise to post again:)
