He is pushing 80 years old and has had a light display for the last 20+ years. He works on lights all year long, with the summer months spent repairing. He starts putting up the lights in October after all the crops are harvested. The first 2 weekends in November, friends and family show up to help. That's where I spend my first 2 weekends! Then he starts taking them down New Year's Day.
He also has a small building that he pulls out...Santa's house. My grandma passed 10 years ago from breast cancer. Until she died, they dressed as Santa and Mrs. Claus. She sat in Santa's house, waving and handing out candy canes. He still dresses as Santa every night, greeting each car. Sometimes on weekends, 500 cars go through. He also has a tour bus go through every weekend.
Every year, a local radio station holds an auction with the highest bidder flipping the switch Thanksgiving night. One year the bid went to $1200! He donates all money to the local Boy's & Girl's Club. When my kids were little, they would take turns going out to turn on the lights. The look on their faces when they realized that they had made everything light up was amazing!
So take a look at his sight. The pictures don't do it justice. My grandpa is the sweetest guy. Santa's spirit lives in him all year!
