Good luck Chance. I so appreciate all of the good advice. i knew i needed to do this but didnt want to put him through it, but it seems its best to get through this now instead of chancing something worse in the future. I will be making his appointment in the morning!

Honestly for MOST it is no big deal. My pup had an undescended testicle so he had THREE incisions, one was like a spay, kind of at the base of his penis, one was at the scrotum sack, and one was kind of on the side of his penis, and he was pretty well fine by the next day. He did walk a little funny for the first 3-4 days because of the one on the side because it was kind of where his leg would bend when he would lay or walk so it seemed a little painful there but I had him on Tramadol pain medication for 5 days and he was just fine, kept wanting to play and had to spend most of his time in his crate so he didn't rip out any stitches. I promise, it is probably more traumatic on us than it is on them that's for sure.

Good luck!

I do not want to get Buster done either but I just scheduled it to be done July 7th while I am on vacation. I was second guessing it untill reading the part of them running off and never being able to find them again.

Hmmm, this is all very interesting to me...

My baby, Rocky is 7 1/2 months old right now and is still intact. I have been hearing mixed opinions on the whole situation. My vet suggested that if I don't want Rocky looking like a female, to wait until he reaches a size I'm comfortable with, which may take 2 years. Although I certainly DONT want to have Rocky vulnerable to health issues.

Is it an issue to wait until 1 year? I mean, I would like to see him grow out a lot more before cutting off the testosterone!

I'm not sure what the basis of your vet's reasoning is. My Max was neutered before he was six months old, and before he turned Senior-age, he was 80# and stands at 26" tall. I can't say that he looks anything female. Check out the pics and see for yourself :)

I think this is pretty odd advice coming from a vet. Neutering really doesn't affect growth. There are many huge boxers that have been neutered and many small boxers that are intact. Its more genetics than anything else.

That is a myth (that neutering stunts growth) and I seriously cannot believe that ANY vet would say that (personally I'd find a new vet). Our rescue boy that we adopted was neutered at around 6-8 months old and he was 82 pounds of PURE muscle in his prime and stood up to my high thigh area (i'm 5'3) he was anything but small. On the other hand I had a foster that was neutered in rescue at around 2 years old and he was only 58 pounds and shorter than the female that is mine. My boy now is 11 months old and 67 pounds and still growing and he was neutered at exactly his 6 month b-day, I don't anticipate him being small since he's already at a larger weight than most his age and continuing to grow. Huge huge myth and one that all vets that I have met personally try to pound out of people's heads not into them and honestly it makes me angry that there are vets, of all people, out there supporting that kind of "old wives tale". Growth, size, weight, etc is pretty much determined by genetics.
