Now, she'll say, "He's so sweet, "he has an 'almost-human' look with those big eyes and short nose" and she loves him.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder!

That's exactely how my mom did too. She told me over the phone how drooly and messy they were and then when she came to visit us they fell in love!! She says Heidi has human eyes. Although, she's not in the market for a Boxer, Heidi has changed her views of them.

Like I said about the skin-kid....who has ever come right out and said.."man, that's one ugly looking kid ya got there"!! That would just be rude!

It really makes you look at it a different way when you say it like that. Maybe you should have told her you wouldn't say something like that about one of her kids!

I just can't understand how anyone could think boxers are ugly!

There are lots of different dogs out there, and we all have our preferences. The beauty of it is that there is probably a "right" dog to suit each individuals preferences for personality and looks.
Excellent point :) That's why there are so many dog breeds - it's just a shame that some people don't research before they get a dog  And it's a shame that some people don't keep their opinions to themselves ;)

I think our new dog, Bindi (crossbreed), is very unattractive to look at (but she is beautifull on the inside :) ). We had a friend stay with us a couple of weeks ago and he thought she was the most lovely dog to look at - go figure - how can you be in a room with 4 Boxers and think that the little plain dog is beautiful? It really is in the eye of the beholder.

I have experienced mixed reactions from people in relation to Jackson.

Some people just fall in love with him and say how much they love boxers and how they have always wanted one, whilst others obviously dont fully understand the breed and comment on how dopy they look and how they couldnt handle the drool.

I have had a number of breeds in the past and have found boxers to be the most intelligent and loving dogs and I just love his wrinkly face :)

Super Boxer
My girlfriend had a boxer years and years ago. I don't remember a lot about him, but the thing that stuck in my mind over the years was how drooly he was and I thought it was gross! But I knew she loved him like he was her son and that was good enough for me. I didn't really get to know him, just knew he was a nice boy and very well mannered. I moved to another city, and then she moved to another province. I had actually forgotten that I had ever even met a boxer, until I met Chewy, our first boxer. When I first met him I thought he was mean looking, he kind of scared me, because he had on a huge spike collar and it was hot out and he had the boxer smile on his face. He didn't look too pretty to me at the time, but he was sure a friendly guy. I got to know him a little bit more and the more I saw him, the more beautiful he got. Pretty soon I just couldn't understand how anyone could look at a boxer and not see their incredible beauty. As my neighbor said when we brought Chewy home "He's absolutely magnificent, what a majestic boy"! Well, I have to agree! Some people don't see their beauty, too bad for them, they'll never know what they are missing, and all the more for us!!!! I've heard a few people comment that boxers are homely or ugly, and I just chalk it up to different strokes for different folks!!!

I used to think Boxers were ugly, but Loke has grown on me! My mom still says she's pretty ugly, but they love her! It doesn't bother me to hear that cause I know what she means and all. I wish some people I knew would think they were too ugly to own.

 i have NEVER had anyone tell me Cash is ugly, everyone loves him and thinks he is gorgeous..which is no surprise because he really is :D

I agree with Scrapper's mom, she doesn't deserve to be owned by a boxer :p

I have a sister who comes over to my house constantly, with her children and is constantly commenting on my Boxers. She likes to come in the door and as soon as the dogs get up to go see her, she says"Get away dogs, eww get away" and flings her hands around. Now that just makes the dogs very interested in her, when she does that!! Whenever one of her kids picks up a dog toy, she says "Eww dirty, dirty dog toy" and my personal favorite whenever one of my dogs licks her kid, she has to go wash their hands real quick. So far, my husband and I have been so amused by her behavior, we roll our eyes and laugh to ourselves.
Content, in the fact that she just doesn't get it and never will know Boxer Love. I have thought about the sign that they sell that states "Dogs Live Here--if you don't like dog hair, dog drool. etc. Don't Come In"

This reminds me of the other day when I had just picked up some photos of Gnarly from the shop and I was walking back into work flicking through them, when my boss stopped to talk to me. He saw a photo of Gnarly and said "Oh I love boxers, I wish I could get one etc etc".

Anyway later that day I was telling my friend, whom I thought was quite taken with Gnarly, that my boss likes boxers and she screwed up her nose and said "really". I was quite offened! Didn't have the heart to tell her that her stupid fluffy Bichon wasn't all that gorgeous!

Gnarly loves it when she comes to visit and I thought that she loved coming to see him, must have been wrong!
