Glad to hear Bax is improving, my dog I had growing up had 2 strokes, and after a while the head tilt went away. Maybe Bax's will too.

Aimee,

Glad that Baxter is feeling better. I've been following this thread closely as you know I am battling Leukemia with Riggo and although he has been doing terriffic lately I know that it can change quickly. Hope Baxter has a terriffic holiday.

Update!

I am thrilled to report that my man had a wonderful Christmas and is getting ready to ring in the New Year with us! I can remember when Baxter was first diagnosed, all I prayed for was Baxter to make it to his Birthday. I kept saying that if he made it until his Birthday, anything after that was a bonus. I feel very blessed to not only have spent his birthday with him, but Christmas and now the New Year. I took off December 23 through January 3 and have thoroughly enjoyed staying home and spoiling my babies rotten. I am especially grateful for the special time I have had with Baxter this past week.

Baxter continues to do well. He still suffers from the head tilt but he has adjusted to it. He has developed an ulcer/tumor type looking thing in his mouth on the inside of his lip. We believe that he may have split his lip when he bumped into the wall at one point or another. We haven't had any luck getting it to heal although I rinse it twice a day with peroxyl. We saw the vet last week and they put him on 2000mg of cephalexin a day because whatever it is appears to be infected. We go back for a recheck next week and if it's no better, they will biopsy it. With any luck it's simply a sore that will not heal. At this stage in the game, I'll take that. Baxter is still suffering from some hind end weakness but I continue to research this. He tends to have difficulty going down the stairs due to the coordination/weakness of those hind legs otherwise they work pretty good! He can even get a good cha cha in now and again when we are out on our walk (a cha cha is when they kick up the grass with their hind legs after they potty). With all that Bax manages with daily, I am amazed at how resilient he his. Baxter truely is a trooper.

The best news, he is still eating us out of house and home (weighing in at 74lbs at the vet last week--and to think in October we were trying to put weight on him!), he still sleeps very comfortably (a little too comfy sometimes ;) ) and continues to enjoy his daily stroll. I'd say we are still going strong!

When Baxter was first diagnosed, I was an emotional mess. I found it very difficult to live each day in the moment, focusing only on how this disease was going to rob me of so many tomorrow's with Baxter. But I have since discovered an inner strength, a strength that I didn't know I had. I am now able to cherish the time I do have with Baxter and it feels good. Coming to terms with Baxter's illness and making peace with it is part of what I believe helps to keep Baxter strong. I continue to pray for strength for both Baxter and I.

Happy New Year :)
