Our Dane X did both his ACLs (apparently once they do one the chances of doing the other are pretty high). We tried to keep him from running and jumping and he went really pretty well for 2 years. His legs did start to go out from under him increasingly for the last 6 months, but I suspect that was as much to do with very advanced age as his ACLs and also being 50+kg. If you can keep his weight down and keep him from doing crazy Boxer stuff hopefully he should be OK long term. The vet put Thor on Firocoxib (Previcox) which cost an fortune but as far as I could see he really didn't appear to be in any pain so I think it was really worth it (lucky insurance paid 80%). Best wishes to Waldo and hopefully a nice rest and restricted movement will do him a power of good.

The knee pain resolved itself. On the negative side I think that it’s likely that a temporary meter reader kicked him. Later I had a male worker trimming trees in the backyard. Waldo came out of his dog door, took a look and immediately hightailed it back inside. That has never been his nature.

In about 3 weeks he will be 8, already getting some gray face. When he is 9 I will introduce a new pup. I want the new pup to be more social with dogs and less fixated on me. It will also be a labradoodle due to family allergies. Losing a second boxer 2 years or so latter will be hard enough without being dogless.

Poor Waldo. People can be vile :( Hopefully he will get over this and be comfortable around strangers again. Good luck with the pup. One of the reasons we got Fiona was knowing that Thor our DaneX was on limited time and having lost 3 dogs in 3 years previously and being without a dog, I really, really didn't want to go through that again. And Fiona brought a bit of cheer to him in his last months even though he could only play with her lying down, it made him happy to be a big brother for a while. Hopefully Waldo will enjoy teaching the new one how to be a dog.

Well Waldo is 8 now. Naps have become very important. Good thing, the ACL cleared up. Bad thing, I think it was bad because someone went into the backyard and kicked or hit him.

Now closing in on 9 . He had a weird cyst moved from his right foreleg back in the fall. Wasn't cancerous. He has also gained all of that weight back and doesn't walk long distances. Hopefully the new Little Brudder will perk him up. Yesterday I paid for a F1-B Sheepadoodle. That is 3/4 Moyen poodle and 1/4 Old English Sheepdog. Gotcha Day will be April 24th.

Hard to believe Waldo is almost 9. Allie will be 10 on April 28th . Time just flies..
A new puppy will probably perk Waldo up and keep him active.

IMG_0805.jpegWell Nemo has been here for 10 days . Also known as Fuzzy Butt and Poopster. Waldo and he are finally getting alone . Waldo spent a lot of time outdoors until Poopster learned to use the dog door.
