my condolences... i know how painful it is to lose a pet so suddenly as i have had it happen to me... as far as a mate goes, i know that when my oldest dog passed that our younger one completely changed almost overnight.. very depressed and although he came out of his funk i don't think he was ever really as happy.. :(

but on the flip side i think that having another playmate is a good idea as long as you are sure that YOU are ready to deal with it too... you might want to give yourself and your female boxer some time to mourn and get ready (although only you will know what feels right)

again my thoughts are with you

I am so sorry :( It's a horrible thing to lose your pet so suddenly and unexpectedly. Like some of the others have said, Tank likely had a heart condition that was never discovered. Boxers are predisposed to a few different hereditary heart conditions, all of which can cause sudden death :(

Will this effect my 2nd dog in anyway? I've never had a pair of dogs, and then have one of them go like that. They were both very tight, perfect for eachother. I was thinking of getting a 3 month old boxer pup from the Bay Area Boxer Rescue. Not sure how Cassie will react, or is that even a good idea?

If the two were very close then it's likely that Cassie will be very affected by Tank's loss. Keep an eye on her over the next few days, and give her some extra love and attention. Getting another companion for her would probably help. As long as you have the time to raise a puppy, I think that a 3-month-old boxer would be a great addition.

So sorry to hear of your loss. :( It probably was a heart attack, as others have said. There was nothing you could have done. It's probably too late now but a nearby college or veterinary school may have been able to do a necropsy for far less than what your vet quoted you. And yes, your other dog will probably take this as hard as you are or worse. Comfort each other and you will know when it is time to move on.

I am so sorry to hear of your loss of Tank. It is so very hard when they pass suddenly like that. I lost one of my boxers that way in March and it is still very hard to deal with. My other dogs went through a depression but all seem well now. I gave them lots of attention especially her litter mate and I worried about her but she is doing great. Again my sympathies to you and your other dog.
