Well, I took Mugsy to the vets for his shots - he was 9 weeks yesterday. Everything was fine with him. I also left him alone for the first time too. He cried the entire time. I could hear him when I pulled into the garage.
I decided to leave for a little again today. I was gone for about 1/2 an hour. I tried to get him tired out before I put him in the cage. We played for almost 2 1/2 hours before I left. Anyways, I put him in his cage, making sure to put in a bowl of water, one of my shirts, a few safe toys, and 2 treats for him.
He started crying the instant I closed the cage. I didn't make a production out of leaving either. I put him in, grabbed my keys, and left. When I got home 30 minutes later, I heard him crying and howling from the garage (again) and when I came into the house, I found his cage empty. He came running from the living room - crying and whimpering. i instantly took him outside. I didn't fuss over him or anything, which i was told not to do by the vet last night. When we came into the house, I found that he messed in the hallway. I was angry, but it was kinda funny at the same time. When I inspected the cage, the latch was still fastened and the door was still in place. I have no idea how he got out. He's still not doing very well with being alone. I'm hoping that over the next few days, he'll adjust. I start working again next week 6:30-4:15. It will be a long day for him. We are trying to see if someone can stop in to feed him, and let him out of his cage, but so far no luck. My husband doesn't get home until 2, so Mugsy will be crated from 7-2 - kinda long for a puppy. I am concerned since he still isn't handling being alone very well. How long did it take for your boxer to get used to being alone in his crate? It breaks my heart to hear him crying and whimpering, but I figure I better get him used to it now, than throw it all at him next week.
