Mieszko fell over - twice today!

Hi all - I've got a vet appointment scheduled tomorrow, but am pretty shook up right now and trying to figure out what's going on with my pup before then. Any insight would be great.

Mieszko is a 7 yr old, brindle boxer, neutered. He's been fairly healthy his whole life, at least nothing too major. Anyway, today as my wife and kids were walking in the door, he fell right in the middle of all of us - knocking my 3 year old daughter into a door frame. He laid there and wouldn't even try to get up until I picked her up and out of the way (what a good boy!), and then he righted himself and went on with his day, seemingly fine. I chalked it up to a slippery tile floor and the chaos that always happens whenever he greets us.

Later today, I came home from work, and was setting the table for dinner. I threw Mieszko a piece of cheese without really even looking, which he caught, and the next thing I knew he was prone on the floor. It happened so fast that I didn't even really see it happen. He laid there for not even five seconds, and then hopped back up as if nothing happened. He ate just fine tonight, drank, and went outside no problems. Everything looks perfect with him, other than that he fell over twice today for no apparent reason.

I have an appointment with the vet tomorrow (two actually - trying to see who I can get in to first!), but am just freaked out waiting until then.

I've searched the forums, but most of the cases I've seen have been heart related and it really didn't seem like that - he just fell.

I am sorry that I do not have any advice but just wanted to say how sorry I am that Mieszko is having problems. Sending healing vibes. Please keep us posted on his condition.

Lots of beans and wiggles sent your way. Hope your baby is just fine.

Sounds like it could be as simple as a seizure. Scarey, but very easy to control with meds.

Check any medications they are on. Possible food allergies. I just hope something this simple for your baby.

Hope your baby has nothing seriously wrong with him. We have been experiencing some seizures with SuzyQ since Sept 6 of this year (she is 6 almost 7). All of the incidents have been longer than a few seconds, but not more than 1-2 minutes. They have been more serious than just falling down, she paddles her feet, sometimes whines/howls, loses control of her bladder. But when they are done within a minute she is back to her normal self. Our vet has us keeping a journal to track severity and frequency (after routine blood and fecal samples to rule out any other cause) before even medicating. Apparently they can have problems with seizures that will completely stop or be infrequent enough that they don't warrant meds. So far thank God hers have decreased in both severity and frequency. But, they all started with her literally just dropping in her tracks - totally freaking out her mom. Sending good vibes your way.

I'm sorry to hear about Mieszko, and glad you are taking him to the vet. I hope it's nothing serious - please keep us posted. Healing and positive vibes going out to your boy.

Well, he had two more spells today, where he just toppled over. He didn't even hit the floor this time, just lost his balance and then right back up. I keep using this analogy, but its like those little toys puppets made of wood with a string inside, and when you pushed the button on the bottom, they just collapse and then pop back up again when you release it.

Anyway, I took him in to the vet today, and they are doing bloodwork tonight and checking for an arrhythmia with EKG and X-rays tomorrow AM. I feel bad, but I couldn't get him in before the morning anywhere in the area. The guess right now is an arrhythmia, but they aren't sure. Its just so odd that it happened so many times (that we know of) without showing any signs before. We just have to keep him calm (ha,ha), hoping that it will prevent any fainting. I'll make sure to keep updating and report the results.

By the way, this site over the years has helped me so many times - I've been an avid lurker without an account, so its nice to come out of the dark, so to speak. Thanks to all for the good vibes and prayers. They are much appreciated. This may be the scariest thing my family has gone through.
